i know! did you notice that in the 3rd book, there was no cabbage merchant at all :O I felt really sorry for the guy
Yeah I thought Azula broke down cos of the betrayal, but I thought she was more heartbroken cos her dad turned her down like zuko and she thought she was infallible.
as for something being introduced too late, they coudl ALWASY make a book 4 :) :) :D :D :D In fact i wish they did!!!!!
NB: I also saw the movie on the plane, and in short, I think they really shouldn't have butchered it up by making a movie! I couldn't help but cursing the casting, and that issue that was pointed out by someone above - making the "coloured people" the baddies and the white people the good ones, when clearly the series has made it the other way around. *PUNCHES M Night Shymalana TOPH STYLE*
I finally saw the movie today. It was terrible, the stuff they actually decided to keep from the series was jumbled and the parts that were important to the story were skimmed over. I sincerely hope they don't plan on making a sequel.
The only thing I liked about the movie was Aasif Mandvi who played Commander Zhao, because I know him from The Daily Show, but if they cast Jason Isaacs (the guy who did his voice) it could've been better.

So apparently Avatar: The Legend of Korra will start airing at the end of this year.
Apparently Korra is the avatar after Aang and the series is set in some big city or something. I don't know whether to be excited about it or not yet. (Also the guy who voiced Zuko is signed on again but he isn't voicing Zuko, so no grumpy old Zuko it seems :( )
I finally saw the movie, and there were so many things I disliked :( I think if I had watched the movie without first watching the show, I would have been a bit confused--I think a lot of the explanations for everything were rushed and overly dramatic.
Also, I though a lot of the names were said weirdly (and by weird, I mean different from how they were pronounced on the show)--Avatar, Aang, Sokka, Ihro, was it just me that thought they were pronounced weird?
I actually couldn't take Aasif Mandvi seriously as Zhao because of the Daily Show. I think Jason Isaacs would have been much better--we already know he can play a great villain (a la The Patriot and as Lucious Malfoy in HP).
Oh, Jackson Rathbone |facepalm|, your episode of Criminal Minds in which you played a person with multiple personalities had redeemed you so much in my eyes, and then I saw you as Sokka in The Last Airbender. I don't think this guy can do anything other than creepily-serious roles. Any attempt at humor or trademark Sokka slapstick comedy came across as so forced.
I should have listened to my fellow Obernetters and avoided this movie, but I'm stubborn and just had to see the awfulness for myself.
Oh well, at least I have Korra to look forward to!!

Momo and Appa are my favourite characters out of both the book series and the movie. <3

I've been on an Avatar bender over the past week, and I am seriously confused as to whether I am a Zutara person or a Kataang person ... there are reasons for and against both!
And why doesn't Toph get an admirer? She totally deserves one!

^ I'm a Toph/Sokka fan myself, Nef, but I suppose there's an age difference problem. And Suki :-/
But I agree, she deserves someone!! Maybe the guy in the wheelchair?

Is it bad if I say that watching the series convinced me that Aang/Katara is the way to go?
Pre-watching the series I was ALL for Katara/Zuko - but the series convinced me otherwise. I mean I think Zuko is TOTALLY HAWTTTTT. Wait what am I saying, Katara/Zuko is the way to gooo!!! ZOML I'm so confused now.
I'm sure if they added in a Book 4, they would totally be able to pull off a Zutara :D
PLUS: IF Zutara works out, there is aways Toph/Aang right?
I don't really think Toph goes with the wheelchair guy...in fact I don't see her with anyone really.

Yeah, I think Toph definitely deserves someone, but I can't see her with anyone. Actually... I can see her with a fiery fire nation boy! :D Imagine the fights they would have!
Kataang is the way to go - but the makers confused the issue by creating a heap of Zutara tension ... not to mention Aang is shorter than Katara ...

They actually intended for Zuko and Katara to get together, but they changed their minds.
Ooooh [act] squeals majorly [/act] This is exciting indeed! But I'm still in love with the originals. This better be good and live up to the standards!!
I scream at the trailer for the Legend of Korra. In joy, and excitement. I'm fangirling over it aleady and all I've seen is the trailer.
As you can probably tell from my avatar (haha), I'm a huge ATLA fan. I'm really looking forward to The Legend of Korra, although a little part of me wishes that there wasn't such a huge jump forward in time. There are so many unanswered questions from the first series!
My favourite character is Sokka, and basically I would pay good money to watch a spin-off series that was just Toph, Sokka and Suki going around having adventures and generally being awesome. I love all the characters, though. They're all so well-rounded and just so human, in so many different ways.

Anybody watching the Legend of Korra?
They were definitely not joking when they said this series would be more serious than the original and for those a bit older (which I guess makes sense since the majority of the characters are older too) but I find I'm still enjoying it. It's got a lot of 1930s era influences which is an interesting touch as well.
Also Bolin is beautiful! Conceited and beautiful.
I'm loving Korra! Except, they really aren't pushing the spirit world aspect to this series - perhaps it will come up later, but it just doesn't seem to be important right now ... I'm only up to episode 5, because I'm trying to prolong the joy ...
And Mako - yay!
I liked that Katara was only in it for a little bit and they didn't get too bogged down into what happened between the two periods (although the question about what happened to Zuko's mother - why didn't she get to answer that?!?!?!?). It could have become very naff if they indulged in that sort of thing.
I've seen everything that has aired so far. They aren't really pushing a lot of things to be honest, which in a way is a shame because the whole concept has a lot of potential and I don't think they are really addressing it as good as the could have. That said, I think it's partly because of the time contraints. There are only 12 episodes in the first book and it is onecomplete story because that is all the orginally got the go-ahead to do. Everything has ended up feeling kind rushed and forced and it doesn't give them time to adress some of the deeper matters that the concepts drag up. Hopefully they might deal with some of these in the second book but if everything with Amon and the equalists is dealt with in this season then there are some things they really need to deal with now! But for me there is only one episode left so I don't see it happening.
Sorry if that sounds vauge, I didn't want to spoil anything. I do love the show though! Lin is an absolute bamf!

Where are you guys watching it? I haven't had time to hunt it down because of uni, but now that I'm thoroughly into the ignoring-the-fact-I-have-to-write-a-thesis stage of my life, I'm ready!
