Anyone participating in NaNoWriMo this year?
It's already day 3 and I haven't started, apparently I should have already written 5000 words |facepalm|
I'm gonna try it in December - more time off ...

I always promise myself I'll participate the next time this rolls around, then it arrives and I back out. I never was good with goals :P
Good luck to those participating!
I participated last year, and though I didn't come at all close to the target, I did manage to get so many words out that I normally wouldn't (need to check actual word count by the end of November!) It's a great way to force yourself to write. I always say I don't have time, but even setting aside like 30 minutes or something helped. I used Bunne's 15 Minute word prompts to help - but extended the time. I also use this program that someone on Obernet introduced me to, called Write or Die. Basically timing you, and every time you stop for too long it would make noises or the screen would go red.
They have meets and stuff, times when they just gather and JUST WRITE. How awesome would that be? If only I had more time! If there are enough people who do it on Obernet, perhaps we can organise a time to just write!
I found out about NaNoWriMo this year and was planning on doing with my school writing group, but then November started and I still havn't thought of a storyline. Since this is also my major assesment period, I'm thinking I'll leave it till next year, or mabey try it over the holidays.

Lol three days? I forgot about this!!! I am doing it, just gotta find something to write about :P
For anyone not able to do it this month, I'm definitely doing it in December, so if you want to do it then, we can start a thread for it or something ... use November to Prepare and then December to write.
Good luck to the people doing NaNo! Especially if you haven't started yet. ;)
I like your idea of shifting NaNo to next month, Nef. It would be much better timing for a lot of people, especially with school holidays starting about half-way through December. A Summer NaNo sounds like fun.

Nef, I'd definately be up for it in December. November is just too crazy for me with uni assessments, but I always intend to write during the holidays, and this'd be a great way to motivate me! :D
And goodluck to everyone participating this month!
Good luck to everyone participating. Writing 50,000 words in a month is lots of work.
So far zero words and a week has already passed! We're supposed to have written 10,000 words! ARGH! Yes, so Nef I may join you in December, but I will attempt November!

Lol I think I shall be joining you in December too, but I am going to try this month first, just like Jossie :P
ARGH!!! 10,000 words??? I dont even have an idea yet!!! what will I do :P
How many words did you end up managing to get after last night, Bambi?
I saw your thing in Bunly advice about writing the scenes that compel you. I'm going to aim for that, hopefully get me inspired again!

One full page Jossie, before I fell asleep :P
And thats what I am trying to do with this one, because I have a really great scene, but no idea how to lead up to it :P
The more I thought about it last night though, the more I think I know exactly where it is going :P

Day 10 and still not inspiration has struck. I have printed out last year's stuff I wrote, in the hopes that inspiration will hit me. But in addition to that, I haven't properly had time set aside to write each day.. so that's not helping either... I might really be up for doing December one... that would make it the OberDecWriMo? hehehe...
EDIT: So should be off to bed, already so late and have work tomorrow. THIS is why it is so hard to write!
Anyway, before I go to bed, thought I'd update about my progress. I printed and have been reading over at last year's work from NaNoWriMo, and I'm so glad I did it because there is so much GOOD stuff to use in there! So many ideas I had that I had forgotten!
Also printed off the first few chapters of this novel and have been reading those.
Productive night, not in writing per se, but in structuring, looking at gaps, asking myself questions and trying to get my brain in the creativity mode. It appears to be working, I'm getting excited.
I think though this month I might use it as my organising, brainstorming month. I have to write reports soon for work, which won't help in writing.

Update: I have hit a thousand words!!! :P
So yesterday at work I wrote a whole bundle during my lunch break, and for the rest of the day I just kept writing in my head, only to get home and have no idea what I had been doing!! So frustrating. But thankfully (well no but yes) last night I was quite sick and couldn't sleep, so sat down and hit out about 3 pages :P I have so many beginnings of chapters, but no full ones as yet. I may have to join everyone else in doing it in Dec, though i have even less time in Dec then I do now :P
i never remember that this is on and then someone telss me a week it and by then i' away and cant get at a computer(and i have tendonitis in my wrist so about 200 words hurts my wrist something awful)
This looks like a very good thing to do. I looked through my novels, and one of them is finished on 45, 000 words. I was like 'Dang, I wonder if I could enter that in. All I really need to do is add 5, 000 words.'
*shrug* Oh wells. Oh, and Jossie, your Obernet meet-write idea sounds AMAZING, I so hope we can do that. I'd most definately come. :) If I don't get anything done in November, I might try the December one with Nef and peeps. Do we really have to start from scratch?!

Hurrah for progress Bam! :D FL I think we do need to start from scratch. I'm using November to think of ideas and possible plot structures so I'm not in completely over my head in December :-? I think we're allowed to plan and things, just not actually have anything writtten.

Lol well, another up date: Is it possible to go behind in a story? because thats how I feel :P I haven't had a chance to write anything else, but day off tomorrow, so maybe can get some done then :P
Starting in December sounds a lot better. My idea is quite historical and I need the research at my fingertips so I don't have to waste time reading when I should be writing. Should it be a proper challenge? With real guidelines and stuff? I think we could make it a little less intense than NaNoWriMo, like an Obernet Novella challenge?
Lots of questions, but I think if we want to really inspire each other this December the challenge has to be set in stone.
What do we think? (0-)

I may have misinterpreted it, but I believe that with Nano, we can continue with a novel we currently have - so Nano allows us to add to what we already have. 50,000 words is not enough for my novel, I think? And would be the same for some others too, I think.
So I don't think you literally start from nothing. I think you can continue on with what you have... correct me if I'm wrong anyone! But I actually prefer this anyway, it suits what I'm doing and what I need to be doing!
I think also, perhaps using those 15 Minute Ficlet prompt words could be helpful - although, I tended to break the rules a little. I used them to inspire me, and often went over the time limit. Maybe we could have a Nano daily prompt words, for those like me stuck and then can use those words to get some ideas flowing and out onto the screen/page?
Might be fun to have our own Obernet guidelines?
FL - those write-ins are actually really part of the NaNoWriMo happening now. I keep getting updates about fellow Melbourne Nano writers who meet up to chat, and then actually have write-ins at people's houses or at cafes. So if throw in some Ober-write-in-meets, where we all hang out at a cafe somewhere and have our laptops or note books and pen to just write? How awesome would that be!

Maybe we could have different categories, like the original 50 000, but some others as well. If different goals are more suited to different people's circumstances, I think there'd be a greater sense of achievement rather than just dissatisfaction at not making it to 50 000 or whatever. And we could sign ourselves up to a particular word count or goal, then other Obernetters can hold us accountable and offer encouragement if it's needed. I'm not sure if I'm being that coherent at the moment, sorry! :)
Also, Jossie, I love the idea of Ober-write-ins! I wish I lived in an Obernetter hot spot! :P
