I'm all for the idea of having our own version of NaNo come December. I personally have never been game enough to try the real thing :P
Ok, so here's the deal: Why not continue to post ideas/suggestions in here about how you want it to run (Do you want different word count goals, prompts, the authentic rules etc.)
The Wirters Mod's will then take your ideas and suggestions on board and attempt to put an event together that everyone can enjoy come December.
Sound okay to you all?
And just as a quick reminder; Could I ask that all possible meet discussions be left for Misfits Only, rather than planning them on the public board? It's just a small matter of safety :)
The rules sound good to me. I also like the idea of having inspirational prompts. Perhaps we can have a daily (or weekly) progress check-in thread to keep people writing as so others can inspire and motivate those who are struggling to meet their goals.
I'd like to be able to write 50, 000+ words but I have a lot of preparation for teaching/conferences in Jan/Feb as well as those darn academic publications to write as well. I will probably aim for 40,000 because I want it to be longer than my MA thesis :D
Only 5 days left before the OberNoWriMo begins! Is everyone psyched/prepared?!
I'm going to write about a small colony on the coast of Campania in Italy between 70-72 A.D. during the reign of Trajan and some mysterious deity disturbances. I have most of my main characters sketched out and accrued quite a bit of research already on families, malaria, and villas but... I have a stack more research to do! It's times like this that I wish I specialised in archaeology not literary philosophy... :(

I'm freaking out Ashta! :P Mine's going to be a futuristic sci-fi/fantasy type thing, and I'm still worldbuilding. Hopefully I'll sort the world out enough in the next five days and be ready to write.
Awesome. I'm sure you can do it! I'm going to start writing even if I have some blanks in my research. I can always look some stuff up along the way (although that's time consuming).
I'm freaking out because I have two other research projects which I've barely started really should finish before the end of December too :(.

This sounds brilliant. A couple of my friends were doing NaNoWriMo. But I just didn't have the time. But perhaps in December I should join in and at least attempt to write a large volume for the first time in several years...
Now I just need an idea ~:|
I hadn't heard of NaNoWriMo until I saw this thread... and it looks pretty interesting. It sounds like something to think about doing next year (as it's already a fair way into November... sigh...). An OberNoWriMo [act]fingers ache from pressing shift key so... many... times...[/act] sounds like fun! :)

Fate, you can always join in the Ober one this December :)
I'm doing it, but my clear month of December has ben upset by a letter from my landlord evicting me so the owners can move back in - I'm going to try and move out by the end of December, so house hunting is ON!
Ack, that's terrible timing! What an inconsiderate landlord.
Maybe we could make it a Summer writing thing, rather than a December one? I'd like to take part, but my holidays won't start until the 17th of December.

i'm in for an OberNaNoWriMo :) i've never done it before, either, but i think it could be good for my persistent writers block that has been plaguing me since the end of HSC :P
I could try it but would probably give up after a couple of days... :(

Sounds good to me. I am planning on having a go for Dec but I will be away for 9 days and then it's Christmas so maybe spreading it out would suit better.

I think a summer long thing would be good! OberNoWriSu! :P I'm still going to treat December as my main month and attempt to get 50 000 words, but the other two months will certainly be a welcome backup :) Or if December is successful, I can try for 50 000 words again! Optimistic...
Sounds awesome. :) Does what we write have to sound professional or do we just write about whatever comes to us?

yup! definitely sounds good to me! :)
VC, as far as i understand it, we just write and continue writing. i don't think it matters if it's good, as long as you get it all out :)

Meza, go check the second post of the thread - MK found a link that tells you all about NaNoWriMo.
I totally forgot to check up on this thread!
I am in agreement with Bunne - my holidays also do not begin until 17th Dec, so having an Ober Summer NaNoWriMo sounds perfect for me. Should we be increasing the word target for those that go for the entire time?
OberNoWriSu - what exactly does the 'No' stand for? The official one is NAtional NOvember WRIting MOnth. So was just wondering
I also love the idea of having daily prompts - pictures and words. I found having an awesome mystical picture really gets the ideas flowing.
This is exciting!! :)
