Just after a bit of (belated) feedback about our Summer of Writing.
If you have a moment, I'm just interested to hear what you thought of our version of NaNo.
Did it inspire you to write? Did it help you get words onto paper or screen? Would you participate again this summer (or winter, depending on hemisphere :) ) ?
For me personally, I was excited at the prospect of participating and over the first few days managed to get some rough but helpful scenes down on paper. However, my motivation abandoned me soon after, and because summer is the busiest time of year for me, I didn't allow myself time to sit and write thereafter.
But on the up side, I would love to give it another go should the event run again this summer. :)

Definitely Ari. I had some good moments but mostly didn't make it. I love to do it again.

I found it really helpful for me, as it really gave me motivation to do some writing I needed for an assignment. It motivated, something I've noticed I need when it comes to my writing, and I would definitely love to do it again :)

I agree with what's already been said. I'd definitely love to do it again. It motivated me a huge amount, and even though I didn't reach my original goal, I still wrote the most I've ever written on the one project. Despite not having time to write during semester, OberNoWriSu also got me back into writing in general, so I intend to do some more as soon as my exams are over next week :)

I didn't end up finishing it, but I was still really pleased with what I had gotten done and I'd really like to do it again :D
I definitely enjoyed it, and would love to participate again. As a motivator in general, OberNoWriSu had a lot more freedom than NaNoWriMo would have. The community's lovely feedback and extended time period made it really fun!

Just giving this thread a little prod back to the top of the pile.
Once again, any feedback on this summers/winters event (as well as ideas for next time) are appreciated. Participation was wonderful for the 2011-2012 OberNo, and it would be nice to do the same again for the 12-13 event :)
I think this was perfect! All the feedback people give you is really motivational. So nice you can choose your own targets too. Just dO the same next year!

Despite the fact that I really didn't make any progress this year, I love OberNoWriSu! It's so nice to have like-minded people working on their own projects while you're working on your own.
I was thinking, would people be interested in doing a winter version of this? I just thought lots of people will be having about a month off from uni during winter, hopefully with overlaps with other universities. It'd obviously be shorter, but I just thought I'd put the idea out there. I totally understand if it wouldn't work out though! :)
I'd be up for a winter one, though sometimes I get dragged along on holidays but there is always time for writing--or at least procrastinating on writing.
That's an interesting idea! I might be interested in that.

I can't see why we can't have a winter go. Let us know which month would suit, (I'm at uni all year round from home) and we'll have a go.

This year I have winter holidays from the 2nd of June to the 22nd of July, so maybe we could have it for all June and July and people could tailor it to their own schedules?
I think I'm mid June to mid July (although depends when I have one of my placements, as there's an assignment associated with that), so June and July would work for me.

June/July it is then. Someone might need to remind me though. :P

Ooooh, I like :) It's the quiet time at work for me, so that means I will have more time and brain power to put into my writing.
I'd be interested in giving it a go, if I remember....
I totally didn't see this Winter version of the challenge. I might join in, but after reports... and when the term finishes and I'm on holidays! Will start then! :) Hope everyone is going well with writing!

I really enjoyed participating. I reached my goal, met some posters who are lovely and got some great feedback. I liked having people help out with the occasional prod too.
I can't wait to get back from holidays and participate in the December NANOWRI
Hi all WM regulars,
Well, the OberNoWriSu threads are locked now, until June, but if you have any comments or suggestions you'd like to make, feel free to leave them in this thread.
I'm actually over my daily target and working well. Hopefully I can keep it up.
Just wondering, I know during Nanowrimo that there were lots of excel documents going around for people to enter in their totals and have lovely charts etc to keep track of their progress. Only issue with these is it is set only for a month, as opposed to the length we decide to do for Obernowrisu. My question is, does anyone have access to an excel document we can easily change to our own personal word goals but still keeps a log of how you are going?
I might have an old NaNo one floating around on one of my drives, but I haven't used excel since high school so I wouldn't remember how to edit it anymore.
I have a spreadsheet that I produced for the books I wrote - has an overall total line graph and a daily word total bar chart. Don't know if it's what you're after but I can link you to one of mine and if you like it send you a copy?
Darga! Yes, could you please link me up so I can check it out? I really appreciate it! I think one of the things motivating me to write every day is seeing that growing total of numbers!
