Task One.
Ness
1. Moonfairy one is in the crease of Min/Pauls awesome firefly bag on the left.
Moonfairy two is beneath the binoculars.
Moonfairy three is either behind or beneath the water bottle. You can see her only just. Poor thing must feel very squished.
Moonfairy Four behind the binoculars case pretending to be the destroyer pig…and Moonfairy Five jetted off to Egypt.
Alternatively: The last two are in the destroyer pig’s stomach. He was hungry. Poor fairies.
2. Item one: matches have been removed from their box. One is near the small plastic cup in the middle and the other is on top of the book with the black section markings, covering the page numbers.
Item two: The Band-Aids have been taken out of their box beneath the matches and are now located in the flap of the firefly bag, under the lid of the binoculars case and behind the previously mentioned black section marked book.
Item three: The binoculars have been taken out of their case and are holding open previously mentioned book with section markings.
3. The destroyer pig is beneath the book that the firefly bag is sitting on and behind the box under the matches. At first I thought he was hiding behind the binocular case. Two pink triangles peeping up… has to be ears right? WRONG! He had me going until I saw the beady eyes. The destroyer pig is always at the center of every problem to happen, so of course where else could he be but the center of the picture!? I mean look at those beady eyes and all that pinkness! However I soon came to the realisation that the destroyer pig is much cleverer than me, and would assume that I would assume that he would not hide in an obvious spot so I would discount it being him, and instead think his decoy is him. I'M ONTO YOU PIG.
4. The Brildane is located to the left of the decoy pig. His relative is the small dog on the other side of the water bottle.
5. The book that is behind the book with the black section markings is The Red Wind. I believe the book behind the firefly bag is the new version of Ashling.
The Red Wind is open to the spread of pages 144 to 145

The Hunt, Part I:
Items located: ~Link~
Locate the 5 moonfairies. They're circled in Fuschia
2 types of items have been scattered away from their box in the picture. Name and locate them.
These are circled in blue. The types of items are matches and bandaids.
Identify the Destroyer Pig (and explain how you knew).
He's circled in orange, the colour of deception >:D
I knew it was him because he was hiding behind the goggles and he's got shifty eyes. It's not the little one under the Blue Sun bag, because that's a healing pig (close to all the first aid items). The dodgy/destroyer pig is behind the items that one would use to spy on other people. Ha :D
Locate a Brildane and its close relative. PUPPY! So I'm guessing you mean the picture of the wolf and the statue of the dog - circled in red.
Name and locate one of the two Isobelle Carmody Books featured in the picture and what part the book is open to.
Phew, this is hard - okay, I've pointed to what must be the two books with green arrows. The one on the right is The Red Wind, and I'm going to take a stab and say the one on the left is Billy Thunder.
Based purely on the position of shapes of words (can't read any of them) I'll guess Billy Thunder is on page 180/181, and Red Wind is open at 144/145.
Hi Moonfairies! Here's my entry for The Hunt (sorry if it's a bit small to see, couldn't get the image to upload any larger):
Answers:
Moonfairies - circled in GREEN
2 types of items scattered:
Matches (3 total) and matchbox - circled in RED
Bandaids (3 total) and box - circled in BLUE
Destroyer Pig - circled in DARK PINK
The little pink thing being very shifty and hiding is the Destroyer Pig because, like in the books, you don't really know what he's doing, yet he's still there… Lurking… Plus he's quite near a box of matches. That's gotta freak you out.
Brildane and close relative (doggy) - circled in YELLOW
IC Books:
The Red Wind (don't know what page it's open to unfortunately, I don't own the book) and another unknown - circled in PINK
Thanks,
Fate of the Mystics :)

Task 1:
-The 5 Moonfairies are cricled in Purple.
-The two types of scattered items are Matches (in green) and Bandaids (in yellow). Three of each are circled in their respective colours.
-The Destroyer Pig is circled in Pink. How do I know it's the Destroyer Pig?
Halina: Don't get her started! >.<
Ari: Huh Hmmm [act]Puts on detective hat[/act]
Notice how it's beady little black piggy eyes are looking directly at the matches. Right about now its thinking "Hmm...there's plenty of paper around just waiting to be burned to a crisp." The pig is also positioned close to the bottle of water in case things get out of hand and it needs to create a safe area in which to shelter until the fire burns out.
Halina: See, she's bonkers. Don't say I didn't warn you!
-The Brildane and it's closest relative are circled in red. Don't be fooled though, even with them on guard the Destroyer Pig will still attempt to take over the world!
Halina: [act]sigh[/act] -_-
-The books are (kind of) circled in black. The book on the right is The Red Wind. The book on the left is Greylands. As for page numbers....I don't own either book so I have no clue. I'll say they are both at page 335 (and if that's right for either one, then colour me surprised).
Unfortunately I only managed to get Task 1 completed :( It'll save whomever judges this some reading time :P

Task 1:
Locate the 5 moonfairies. [1 point per moonfairy + 1 bonus for locating all 5]
(Circled in pink)
1. Far left of picture next to bag.
2. Middle right, hiding under binoculars.
3. Far right, hiding behind the pocketwatch
4. Bottom left, being squished by the bottle of water
5.
2 types of items have been scattered away from their box in the picture.
Name and locate them. [1 point for names of the two items + 1 point per item found + 1 bonus for locating all]
Matches (circled in green)
Bandaids (circled in blue)
Identify the Destroyer Pig (and explain how you knew). [1 point for location + 1 for explanation + 2 bonus for best explanation]
(circled in yellow)
Those beady little eyes gave him away straight away. He's in the middle (basically), so you know he wants to be the center of attention. He's just teamed
up with the Brildane (picture), before that he was doing research for his next scheme in the books under the bag, he's off to see how his captive
Moonfairy is doing, as the previous day he quished her under the water, and now he's off to the antiseptic lotion because he got a splinter from those
nasty matches he keeps leaving everywhere. He will then proceed to sanitise his hands (pig's need to be clean too!), before spying on his next prey with
the binoculars and doing further research on how to create his own bug army (which hasn't been going so well because he's needed so many bandaids),
and if that doesn't work, he has the fall back option of just setting everything on fire.
Locate a Brildane and its close relative.[1 point each]
(circled in orange)
The brildane is in the photograph just under the bag
And his close relative, the adorable little puppy is to the left of the water bottle. He's trying to save the trapped Moonfairy. Suffice to say he's not
very happy with the destroyer pig.
Name and locate one of the two Isobelle Carmody Books featured in the picture and what part the book is open to.
[1 point for book name + 2 points for correct page + 5 bonus for both books correctly named ]
The Red Wind (circled in red), it's open to page 145.
The other Isobelle Carmody book is in the top left corner. I keep trying to make out the words but the most I can get on the left-hand page is '"Who are you?" I demanded.', which of course I cannot find anywhere.

Here is my image
1. Moonfairies circled in red
2. Binoculars; match. Both circled in lime green and located out of their box
3. Yellow circle =Destroyer pig – it is pinky-red in colour and obviously this symbolises destruction. It also most closely resembles a pig based on the limited glimpse offered.
4. Brildane and dog (close relative) circled in pink
5. Purple asterix: The Red Wind. I’ve marked the other book with a violet line, but I can’t really work out what book it is so I’m going to guess Obernewtyn based on a size estimation of the spine of the book.

Task Two
Ness
Part One:
Item one: The water bottle. People need their hydration and when its empty something to put all the condensed water they collect at night into.
Item two: The bites and stings/first aid book. Bush/desert = creepy crawlies and injuries. One needs to know what's going to kill one. Plus it’s heavy looking. Dropping that on a crawler from a meter is instant death! No touching required!
Item three: The matches. You can make fires! With bush land there's plenty of fodder. You can make torches to see with…. Campfires to gather around and tell creepy stories… Use said fire to cook on or heat up tinned food on…. Use fire as a weapon… It's an endless list! But to get fire you need matches. Who does that stick/rock fire starting anymore?
Part two:
Three of our party had been taking out by a blurred creature. You would see nothing, but hear: FWOOSH! BAM! THUMP! Down went its victim. I dragged Teddy, the most recent casualty, to the fire and saw a bite-mark on his arm.
I will admit, seeing that bite, I forgot there was a crazed fwoosher running about, thumping people. I found what I was looking for and in excitement thrust out my book whilst gesticulating widely. I may have been ranting at the time, it would certainly explain why I didn’t hear the THWACK or the FWOOSH.
I did, on the other hand, feel the impact. Our predator was this long legged thing with lots of feathers in every colour, a tiny head but with a huge rainbow crest. It looked like it might have been straight out of a Disney movie.
It was out cold on the floor. I’d taken out our menace! All we had to do was wait for the other guys to rouse we could continue on our way.
The sun set, the bird was still out cold and the guys still hadn’t roused. Freddy started rubbing rocks together to light the campfire. I smugly whipped out my matches and beat him to it. I wasn’t feeling smug for long though. It occurred to me that the birds should have stopped their calls when the sun went out and the there were no clouds even though we could hear thunder.
What happened next was mostly blurring and fwooshing: A bird search party looking for their fallen comrade. They thundered around and through our camp, over packs and through tents. Nothing was safe! The tracker leapt to his feet and struck a ninja pose, only to be trampled down from a bird running up behind him.
It was up to me to save the camp! I was the one meant to be the hero! So like a hero I grabbed a stick out of the fire (and burnt my hand horrendously and singed an eyebrow off) and began to wave it around as a hero might. I thrust to my left, parried to my right. I ducked and dive-rolled about camp, jabbing at the fwooshing birds. Finally, I got one in the leg. It squawked its pain and the search party turned tail and ran away.
I puffed out my chest, made my heroes award acceptance speech to an imaginary crowd, and reenacted my incredible moves. Mid-speech I noted there was an awful lot of light. And I really was very warm.
Fearfully I turned slowly and discovered that not only had I set alight to a tent, a tree had also caught on fire. No one would reward me as a hero now! I grabbed up my unscathed bottle and threw water on the tent, then with my book began smacking out the fire. When it was finally out, I pulled another tent off its poles and began to smack at the tree.
Many bruises and a head full of twigs and leaves the fire was out. That part of my story was most definitely not being recounted when my companions awoke.
Task Two:
Arwen
- Bottle of water
- Binoculars
- First Aid Kit (bandaids)
It was really quite enjoyable to start off with, exploring the bush in the morning shortly before the sun rose. I admit it was a little dark and I did fall a few times, but I could see a few feet ahead of me, enough to know that I was heading east. It probably helped that the sun was starting to rise too. When it had risen I was quick to use the one bit of first aid I knew how: bandaids. I’d managed to acquire a few more scratches than I’d thought. With the stroke of brilliance that comes after having read Hansel and Gretel the night before, I dropped parts of the rubbish as I went, just so I could find my way back.
The sounds of birdsong echoed about me whenever I managed to walk within the trees, sparse as they were. Most of the time I would just whistle or hum, tunelessly, happily and probably rather badly. With the sun high in the sky it got hot, and I, being the inexperienced hiker I am, drank most of my water before midday. This left me with a problem I hadn’t thought about. I had two mouthfuls of water left, and I still hadn’t started to turn back the way I’d come. I wouldn’t survive if I didn’t get more water. With this in mind I started to use the binoculars in the hope of locating a spring amongst the desert landscape. I continued east until at last I saw something through the binoculars shimmering, glinting in the bright sunlight. Clutching the water bottle close I ran towards what I’d seen and collapsed on my hands and knees at the edge of a small spring. Gulping water faster than I could fill the bottle I splashed the liquid on my face and sighed in relief at its coolness. The sun progressed across the sky as I rested in the shade of a coolabah tree, gathering strength and sipping water.
I rose with some reluctance and took another drink, filled the bottle to the brim and retraced my steps, following the many pieces of rubbish I’d left as a trail. My feet were covered with bandaids. I’d felt guilty whenever I dropped a bit of the plastic, so I was quite happy as I eased my conscious by picking each piece up. The land was quite beautiful, peaceful. The binoculars allowed me to see when I was a few hundred metres away from home, and I thought longingly of the bath that awaited me. Back where I’d begun that morning, I turned around and took in the landscape, drinking the last of my water. The sun was low on the horizon, casting its last rays of light for the day as it set in magnificent hues of yellow, orange and red.

The Hunt. Part 2
Items taken.
1. Bottle of water
2. Binoculars
3. The Red wind.
Heading off for a day in the desert to explore the home of Zluty and Bily with the directions in the little red book, I came across a rather strange looking creature. It was nothing like the monster that Bily had nursed to health; more like an overgrown mouse standing on its hind paws. The creature hopped, rather than walked, over and introduced herself as Kanga. While this name echoed in my head she told me that she was looking for her baby who had wandered, or hopped, off and was lost. His name was Roo.
I offered to help Kanga look for young Roo and scanned the area using the binoculars I had brought. There were many other overgrown, hoppy mice jumping around or nibbling on the sparse patches of grass. Unfortunately none of them were Roo. After a while we both stopped to have a rest and a drink. To my utter surprise I had inadvertently carried a fourth item into the desert with me. Squashed on the bottom of the water bottle was one of the Obernet Moonfaries. She was so relieved that I pealed her off the bottom of the bucket she offered to grant me a wish. Knowing that Kanga’s need was greater than my own I asked her if she could locate Roo. With a wave of her tiny magic wand, Roo appeared, hopping quickly up to his very relieved mother.
The End.

The Hunt, Part II:
3 items to take: I'll take the Envy badge, the FMA pocket watch and the photo of the wolf.
Entry:
I was walking through the Australian outback through what felt like a million-degree heat, when unexpectedly, I realised I was on fire.
Cursing myself for not bringing a water bottle, I rolled in the dust, dislodging all the items I'd so carefully picked from the original selection.
The silver pocket watch I'd been carrying rolled open, it's ' Don't forget 3 Oct "11 ' message glaring at me brightly under the midday sun.
I let out a cry of anguish; the heat had addled my brain, and I'd forgotten. When had I carved that message into the pocket watch? Why was it so important that I remember that date?
Trying to gather my dehydrated wits, I picked up my other items; a badge with a picture of a little person on it, and a picture of a wolf.
What bizarre, irrational items you've brought with you, I scoffed at myself. A pin, a pocket watch, and a puppy - honestly.
I sighed, then smiled.
"Well, I do like things that start with the letter P!"
I took a break under a scrubby looking tree to inspect my items, and a thought occurred to me. "I could double my savings if I combined my items!"
Breaking out into the Captain Planet theme song, I began constructing. With the sharp end of the Envy pin, I carved at the message in the pocket watch. I carefully cut around the picture of the wolf.
It what felt like no time at all (but could have been anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours in reality - when you're dehydrated things are a bit wibbly-wobbly), I had a result.
Inspired, I rose, and continued walking.
(if you don't get what I'm talking about... ~Link~ )
Hi Moonfairies! Well, it turns out there was a second Task in the Hunt, so here's my entry for that below :P
[ligne][/ligne]
3 items to take:
1. Bottle of water
2. Torch
3. The Red Wind
ExplanationHappily strolling along, keeping hydrated with my bottle of water, I suddenly realise that I've travelled into an experimental habitat for humans living without technology. Just casually. Yet there is no way for the people running the habitat to be aware of my presence or the fact that I inconveniently forgot how to get out of there. Suddenly, the sky itself seems to dim and the sun (which is an artificial source of illumination fabricating day and night) turns off. I turn on my torch so I can see, and carefully navigate my way under a tree and hope that I don't encounter any local wildlife. Unfortunately, the illumination from my torch alerts some of the people who have been living in the habitat. They have gone mad without their xPhones, SpaceBook and the Interbasket and are nearly wild. They move forward, intent on stealing the first sign of technology they have been around for a long time. To distract them, I pull out... [act]flourish[/act] The Red Wind, and begin to read slowly. The people are confused: what's a book? They've heard of eBooks, sure... but slowly they come closer and together we read the magical tale of talking animals. It's the escape they need, and the time I need to escape. Or, at least, passing of time until someone comes along and realises where I am...[ligne][/ligne]
Hehe, well wasn't that weird? :P
Thanks,
Fate of the Mystics :)

Items for the Day
1. Full water bottle
2. Binoculars.
3. Yellow bag containing (not visible) food, first aid kit, sunhat, map, compass, rope, ect
“Your challenge is simple.†I turn back to look at the overguardian, indistinct in the predawn light. “You asked of the earth a judgement which touches on that which is held most sacred to us. This is too important to trust to the dice and battlegame challenges; we come today to let the Earth test you herself. You have from the time the sun rises, to the time the sun sets, to return from here to the centre of the sacred spice groves. You may carry nothing but three things chosen from us with you. Be warned; while the land you will be travelling is not true desert, it has dangers of its own. Hurry, now, and choose your items. The sun will not wait.â€
I frown as I follow the others to the table. When we came to the Eathtemple with our dilemma, this was not what we expected. It sounds simple, but that means that there must be a catch somewhere, it must be more than it seems. Few Sadorians have ever travelled in this area, the land between the tainted blacklands and the fertile spice groves; as the overgardian said, there must be unknown dangers.
I stand before the table and look at the objects remaining. At first glance they seem useless; some pictures, toys, books. I take the bottle full of water and the binoculars, hesitating as I try to choose a third. Then, at the very back of the pile, I see a yellow bag. I pull it out and examine it, then glance up at the overgardian. He looks at me for a moment then nods slightly, posture expressing amusement and approval. The sun rises and the others start running at an easy pace towards the spice groves, but I turn and walk back to kneel by my pack. From it I take food, a sunhat, first aid kit, rope and many other small and useful things which I place in the yellow bag. Ready at last, I set off.
Throughout the day, I am repeatedly glad of my foresight. Between the compass and the binoculars I am able to plan the easiest and most direct route through the scrub. I use bandages from my first aid kit to protect my hands when pushing through a wall of thornbushes, and more of its contents to patch myself up afterwards. The rope is invaluable in climbing down the cliff into the spice groves, and anchoring me as I swim the river. The hat protects me from the fierce heat of the sun, while the food and water give me the strength to continue late into the afternoon.
The sun is close the horizon when at last I reach the centre of the spice groves. I slow and tack stock of myself. I am tired but not exhausted, and other than the few deep scratches I have already treated I am uninjured. As the moon rises I stand in a line with the others who have made it to the grove. The overguardian walks along the line, saying a few words to each person. At last he comes to me. “You have been judged by the Earth. You showed that while it is important to trust the Earth, it is also important to be prepared. You looked within the instructions and saw how to help yourself. You have passed the test.â€

Task 2
"Identify 3 items in the above scene that you would take along with you on a real expedition to survive the day in the following": - Purple circles.
I would take the water, the torch, and the pocket watch. The water would hydrate me, and that will enable me to keep travelling. The torch would provide me with the means to safely travel at night, when it’s cooler, and less sunny (I don’t really like the heat and I burn far too easily). This will also help me conserve what water I do have. The pocket watch will enable me to correctly answer the question “Do you know what time it is young lady?â€. Because, as I’m travelling at night, it’s likely I will accidentally encounter other travellers who are sleeping, and will perhaps wake them with my torch-light.

Mornirkirara
Firstly – great effort in consideration of the low quality image – I’ve tried to upload a bigger image however it has cut off some of the picture (though nothing important I assure you!)
Task 1
1. 5 moonfairies – it seems most people were able to find 4 of the 5 (even waterlogged Moonfairy!) but not #5… her wand and part of her forehead may be found peaking from the bottom left underneath a page in the First Aid book (How did she get ther? You may need to ask M.Destroyer Piggy… special mention goes to Ness’ explanation of where Ms. Moonfairy #5 disappeared off to!)
2. The scattered items were indeed the Bandaids and matches (although I did appreciate Schis’ binocular theory~~)
3. You could have chosen either one of two piggies [purple rectangles]. It was a tough call between Min, Ari and ElspethInnle’s reasonings but in the end I thought ElspethInnle’s was the most plausible – how else does one explain such an assortment of seemingly random stuff in one location????
4. Brilidane and it’s relative the little Rottweiler puppy are circled in red.
5. The two books were ‘The Red Wind’ and (this is sneaky of me: the American version of) ‘The Farseekers’ – well done Bibliophile & Arwen for their deduction (or great guess :P) at this one. I didn’t expect anyone to get the page number for both books – just ‘The Red Wind’ which some did: pages 144-145 :)
Task 2
Firstly - kudos to all the obernetters who noticed a certain moonfairy's love of FMA and, in writing their response, attempted to possibly win some small favour :P I very much enjoyed reading all the encounters (sounded quite exciting!)
Alas, there can only be one winner and as such I had to pick Heart of the Darkness' as not only is it a good example of how the heat and lack of food may go to one's head - it also offers a possible solution of how one may deal if found in such a situation…
Good work everyone and hope people had fun. I think I’ll have to make sure to make it much harder next year though…
