Forgive me if this has been covered before but I could't find it...
In the sending the wolf Rheagor goes seglia and sees that not all the wolves will survive the journey and that not all of Elspeth's 'pack' will 'stand with her at the end'.
Do you think this is a reference to the journey to the weaponmachines/sentinel or just to the city (if they are not the same)?
At first I thought it was the trip to the city, however the wolf does separate the two sets of events so it may be later. While reference to Elspeths pack might be that Ahmedri will leave by then the wolf seems to be warning of more than this.
Rheagor refers to them as her pack so in the assumption she doesn't collect any more...
Who is going to die?
Elspeth has:
Dameon
Maruman
Darga
Gahltha
Dragon
Swallow
Analivia
Ahmedri
Rasial/Gavyn (when one dies both die due to a combined soul)
Faraf
Sendari (Swallow's horse)
Falada (Ahmedri's horse)
and the owlet
Ahmedri has been foreseen returning home with Straka's body so it cant be him
Swallow and Analivia seem to be getting friendly and it seems unlikely that IC would start this just to kill them (yet at least)
Dragon has to live as the red queen
Maruman still has a big part to play/has to stand with her nearly at the end I would have thought in order to use the key at least
which leaves:
Dameon
Darga
Gavyn/Rasial
and the horses
Of course the others might die closer to the time once their stories have played out further but Im just trying to narrow it down at this point...
This could spell the end of Dameon that so many people are predicting...
although Galatha and Avra have also become estranged and Rasial seeks to die
Anyone have suggestions?
It would be truly terrible is Faraf dies, the most unbearable after all she has been through.
Though i would like to believe that everybody will live, i think it would also be a dissapointing.
So I think Rasial and Gavyn. Rasial went to Obernewtyn seeking her death (maybe she even went to the 'mountains' which would fit even better with this part of their journey, though i can't remember the quote). And to be honest i can't imagine Gavyn growing to adult-hood (can anyone else see him, for example, going through puberty, having 'urges', falling love?).
This clearly isn't a great argument but i thought i should put some justification in, otherwise it's just me writing who i hope will die (or live). That's just a bit too morbid.
Hmmm.... I don't know but I think youre list of possible deaths is quite short depending on how cruel IC is going to be. But it is the last book and something which I love about last books is that all bets are off - you can go hatchet crazy and off as many characters as you want! (huh, I sound sadistic...)
Anywho my bets on who I think will die by the end of the Red Queen (not necessarily just to the city):
Rasial and Gavyn - yeah... I think a lot of people are in agreement about this given the emphasis of how they're linked and when one dies the other will as well. Keep in mine Rasial has been injured and we know how deadly simple wounds can be to the beasts given the spiritual nature of their injuries.
Swallow - I have to disagree with laine about him being safe just because of a possible romance between him and Analivia. There's been foreshadowing of how Swallow will have a child (son?) that will not lead the Twentyfamilies most likely due to the fact that the gyspies will not be gypsies anymore since the ancient promises have been fulfilled. Analivia has to live until she has the child but that does not mean Swallow has to survive. If IC wants to twist the knife I think Swallow will die leaving behind a pregnant Analivia (oh the angst!!!!)
Maruman - he's not getting any younger and the books have mentioned how he has become more frail as time goes on. I think Maruman isn't going to make it (even though that makes me depressed...)
Dameon - I don't know why I think Dameon will die but I have this feeling he will. Probably in a big noble sacrifice or "he's the destroyer and now Elf has to kill one of the dearest friends/unknown love interest!!!"
Horses - I think they will live and will have some part to play in the freerunning barud (cyrogenics in Eden maybe?)
Well... I'm glad I'm not writing the OC cos I would knock off a lot of our beloved characters. But this my (bloody minded) 2 cents!
Maruman has to survive!!!, at least until he gets Elspeth into the sentinel complex as his meow now forms part of the memory seed that allows Elspeth to enter. Also Elspeth is amazed at how much better he looks in TS after his visit to the Agyllians (sp??) and thinks they may have taught his body to heal itself. I'm not sure about this, but they would have made sure he had enough life let to get Elf into the complex.
If he dies (which I hope not) maybe it'll be in some heroic way. ie towards the end Elf get knocked unconscious, as she is prone to do, and is confronted by the destroyer on the dreamtrails and Maruman saves her, sacrificing himself. :(
I was thinking maybe the 'not all your pack will stand at the end' may not mean they all have to die . At the very end of TS Elspeth is kidnapped by the efari - so possibly Rheagor's statement just referred to the fact that she would be separated from her pack. It does seem unfair though that so many wolves died and no one else has (yet).
