Okay, I am still reading The Sending. I am a geography geek so it has been bothering me WHERE the land is in relation to today's geopolitical borders. I have been assuming northern areas of Europe, but now I am wondering if it is actually Italy.
I think we're pretty sure that Obernewtyn was in Old Scotia (Scotland)
But isn't the Land too big to be the UK? And nowhere in the UK fits the descriptions of Gafia or Sador, which are definitely linked to the Land...I've been wondering if the UK and the rest of Europe could be joined...?

Bria, you misunderstand. Dark One wasn't saying that the Land was all in the UK, just Obernewtyn. If you read Min's theory, you'll see that the land has been theorised to be like a large fraction of Europe proper.
Dark One, I know there's an interview or something saying that Obernewtyn is in Scotland, but the way the quote I posted above fits with the sending and how the govermen facility Cassie went to was also meant to be there? I wondered if that interview might have been misinterpreted or have happened prior to TKP and IC changed her mind or something like that.
Sian: Its entirely possible, but we could also interpret from the quote that China (the Chinon Empire) has expanded its borders since our time, if they are now near Romania. The Chinon Empire would've had to have taken over most, if not all of the middle-eastern countries.
However, the conversation you quoted contains gaps as if what is being viewed is constantly fading in and out (can't remember why at the moment). So how the quote currently reads, and what exactly is being said could be two completely different things.
I always assumed that Obernewtyn was in Scotland since so many people speak with a Scot's accent!
Well I did think it was in Scotland, but then we discovered that the other facility was in 'Old Scotia', which is probably Scotland, so therefore Obernewtyn must have been further south...and maybe the 'Highland' accent is a northern English accent as opposed to the Lowlanders' accent possibly being a southern English one. Maybe?
And thanks Sian, I was thinking the Land was a bit too big to be the UK!
Everyone just remember you can travel from one end of the land to the other (Sutrium to Obernewtyn) in a couple of days on horse back, so it can't be colosle(however you spell that word starting with c that means enormous) can it?
I have no doubt that area is Europe, but i'm still convinced that the Land isn't that big itself. It could just be the UK. when i went to europe at one stage, it took 3 hours on a super train to get from germany to prague - not that far considoring - so it still took a while. What ever time frame it still isn't a massive distance. So, to recap, in my opinion, Europe is the area in which the Land is set, the Land itself is no bigger than the UK because even though Europe is a lot smaller than Australia, it still is pretty big distance wise. I hope that all makes sense. I am not very good at getting my ideas across when i have a lot going on in my head.
The source I'd use for distances between things is Elspeth's distances to Brydda, about how long it'd take for someone to get to various places in the Land. It's in TKP, I think. These distances are based on her previous travels, but lists the fastest possible travel time by horse and it's the first time distances and times have directly been talked about, not just mentioned in passing.
You can take the time she estimates, with the average speed of a horse, and calculate distances...actually, that's what I did in the theory Sian linked you to, so check that out, there's better explanation in that :P
