What I like most about your world is how casual all their abilities are. They change shapes and flip water around as casually as if they were scrambling eggs :).
Poor perfectionist Ria :).
Your word count's creeping up steadily, so don't despair Araleen! You'll get to your goal :).
Yay! After an eight day drought I wrote 384 words today. I was getting to the point where I wanted to give up because I wasn't writing anything and the amount of words I still had to do wasn't getting any lower even though the amount of days I had to do it in was. Then I was cleaning out my emails and I came across an old one. It was an email letting me know that someone had posted in my thread and what they had said. I'd read it before but it kind of caught my eye for some reason. It was about Darga's last post. When I read about what Darga thought of my world and my characters it really encouraged me to give it another go. So thank you Darga. I probably would have given up my OberNoWriSu attempt if your post hadn't encouraged me.
Word count since I last posted: 427
Total word count: 13816
Thank you everyone who has posted encouragement. It really does mean a lot and it really does help me to keep on writing when I'm in a dificult spot.
Glad to hear Araleen :). I'm sure we all sympathise with wanting to write and not being able to get the words out, and it can be nice knowing that there are people out there waiting to read more! And you've done almost 14000 words! That's an achievement to be proud of.

Definitely a great summer of writing.
:rolling: OberNoWriSu 2013/2014 :rolling:
Its OberNoWriSu again yay! I'll start off with updating you on what actually happened at the end of last year's OberNoWriSu. I Gave myself to large a word goal for the time and commitments I had. My goal was 20,000 and I got to 14479. Not a bad effort. I got pretty close but it probably would have been better to have a 15,000 word goal instead. That's why I've made my goal lower this summer because I'm even busier.
Word goal:10,000
I started writing on the 9th of December this year because we had no internet for the first eight days of December :O It was so bad. I love this internet too much so I only had the limited amount on my phone. It was a long week.
Anyway this is my current progress:
9th: 414
10th: 0 (burnt my fingers)
11th: 0 (tired & forgot)
12th: 135 (Yay)
Total word count: 549

Nice effort so far Araleen! Keep it up! :)
And I feel you on the Internet thing. Nothing is worse than losing net.
Good luck with your word count. Given your achievements last year, it certainly looks as though you'll be able to get to your 2013/2014 target.

hope your fingers are ok. Good start
Must have internet... *twitch*
Doing well! Keep those fingers away from hotness!
Thanks everyone ;D
I've managed to keep myself out of trouble for now. I'll post a snippet of what I've been working on soon. At the moment it's bits and pieces here and there so it probably wouldn't make much sense.

Here's something I wrote last OberNoWriSu to keep you going until my next post.
I walked toward the oval for ability training after my first day of classes in the school sport uniform of black shorts and a red polo shirt. I had expected classes to be different because of being in a school for abilities. I expected all the classes to be learning about abilities and fighting. They weren’t. The school day structure was your typical 8:30 to 3:30 schedule with a mid-morning break and a lunch break. The subjects were pretty much the same except that half of the content was related to ability history or law. People also acted exactly the same except they used their abilities to do everything. People with the telekinetic ability would use it to write for them or throw stuff at other people when they got bored. A student with the duplication ability made a copy of themselves which they set to doing schoolwork while they mucked around at the back of the class. Another person was sitting on the roof taking notes upside down. Fire balls, light streaks, streams of water or darkness and chunks of earth often flew around the classroom. People used their ability in every class in so many different ways. The teachers didn’t seem to mind the students using their abilities as long as they didn’t hurt anyone with them. Anyone who did was punished by their ability being restricted. The worse they did then the longer their ability was restricted for. On top of that they also got detention. Xavier thought it was funny. I had only been able to find Xavier and Ria during the lunch breaks. I hadn’t been able to find Aaron anywhere. Xavier said we’d see him in the evening so I had to wait until then.
“Our first ability class is going to be so exciting,” Mariela said cheerfully.
I nodded and said, “Yeah.”
I frowned as we came to the oval. In the stands I could see a person in the green khaki of the guild police. What were they doing here? Protection for the school? Mariela didn’t seem to notice but that seemed to be normal for her. I gathered with the other somatics for ability training.
The guild police man checked his watch and yelled to the stragglers, “Run or you’ll regret it!”
The teenagers ignored him of course.
He grinned and said, “I guess they need a little demonstration.”
He clicked his fingers. A massive ghostly shape appeared behind him. It had the legs and head of a massive bull while the rest of the body was of a man. It was a minotaur but it was blurry around the edges and you could see the shapes of the things that were behind it through the minotaur. Some people screamed. The guild police man pointed to the stragglers. The ghost minotaur jumped and landed behind them. They ran toward us, stumbling over each other as they tried to get away from it. The man waved at the minotaur ghost and snapped his fingers. The ghost minotaur disappeared.
The man smirked and said “Glad that you all finally made it. My name is Hank Torsten and I’m a captain in the guild police. You can call me Captain, Sir, or Captain Torsten. If you couldn’t tell already I am a medium. You’re probably all wondering what in the world a guild police captain is doing at your little school. Any ideas?”
No one answered.
Torsten shrugged and said, “It’s to be expected that you don’t get told anything. Spy paranoia is going around again. Well I’m here to train you. I’m sure you remember or have heard about the attacks on the abilities camps over the summer and the disappearances. Someone in the Guild Council, for those of you who don’t know that’s our government. It’s just equal numbers of politicians from each of the guilds who argue about everything. Anyway they decided it would be a good idea to train you little guys in defence for if you’re attacked again. That job, of course, has fallen to me.”
I raised my eyebrows. This was going to be interesting. They hadn’t even sent some safe, nice person to train us who would just talk to us rather than teach us anything useful. They had sent someone who clearly shouldn’t be allowed to teach children but would actually be able to teach us to protect ourselves. This sounded like it would be a cooler and more interesting version of Amber’s training.
Your word count is going in the best possible direction: up! Nice work. :D
I'm sure you'll make your word count :D You've made good progress
Yay I've finally overcome writer's block and Christmas and New Year laziness. I wrote 216 words today so my total word count is 1385. Yay!
Nice work, Araleen :). Hopefully this is just the start of much more wording.
Huzzah, good to see you getting back into it.
My story that I'm working on at the moment is not behaving. After very little words getting written and constantly getting stuck I'm just going to write something each day and see how it goes. Maybe it'll end up working for the story or maybe it'll just be part of another or even stand alone random bits. Anyway I'm just going to write and not worry about stuff working. I'm just going to let they creativity take me where it will.
This is the result of my new approach

Great idea, Araleen! And sometimes when you write something unrelated, it just gets the mind flowing or something, and you end up knowing what to do with that thing you're supposed to be working on. Or so I find.
Araleen, I agree with Darga! I am doing a similar thing of just writing random scenes to see where they take me. And it does work to an extent- so keep at it. Looking forward to your daily updates!
Yep, I find writing scene from different characters perspective can help too. Also it's just fun.
That's a great idea and it really seems to be doing the trick, as your tally of words is proving!
Thanks everyone for your support :D
Yay more words today. None yesterday as I was working all day then had a girls' night out. Interestingly what I'm writing now is closer to my original idea for the main character. That could be why I've been having trouble writing more of the story because I've gone too far away from my original idea. I'll have to see how it goes. I suspect my character will drift back toward my original idea a bit but not completely since ideas and characters change as you go.

Oh well, nothing wrong with pantsing things a bit. Good luck working out where it's all heading :D
They do indeed change. Best of luck whipping your story back into submission :D
We writers often seem to operate in a desperate atmosphere of controlled change, but it works! It looks as though your story is going well, though, judging by your word counts.
Thanks everyone :)
My story is still refusing to behave but I'm just letting the words flow anyway. They'll be useful at some point. Busy weekend so I didn't write anything on the 18th or 19th but today was a success. 621 words! 3147 is now my total.
