Nothing yesterday but 354 words today! 3501 words in total :) My word count is going up slowly but steadily.
It is indeed :). Glad this summer has been a productive one for you.
Yay words two days in a row. Yay for inspiration striking. I wrote 341 words, bringing my word count to a total of 3842!
I even have a snippet for you guys. Its in the same universe as my story that I've been writing but its not about her its about someone else. It just came to me and flowed onto the page. Yay!
She laughed in delight, snowflakes pooling in her hands. She threw them into the air and watched them drift. She flicked her fingers at them as they drew closer to the ground. A light breeze lifted them up, delayed their landing. She stretched her hands to the sky and spread her fingers. Rain sprinkled down. She spun around in delight, laughing happily. She pointed up at the clouds. They darkened and a bolt of lightning arced down to her finger. She passed it from finger to finger, fascinated and awed. She looked down at the sand and back to her lighting covered finger. She smiled and threw the lightning at the sand. It crackled into the sand. She walked over and dug into it, pulling out the small piece of glass she’d created. She grinned at it in delight and stood up. She stumbled, raising a hand to her head. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she crumpled to the ground. The glass slipped out of her hand and onto the sand beside her.
She awoke in bed with a splitting headache. She groaned.
“Kara, you’re finally awake!†Catherine said, hugging her tightly.
“Huh,†she said, “What’s going on?â€
Catherine wiped away tears and said, “You’ve been unconscious for three days. The doctor said you might not remember.â€
Kara looked up in shock, finally noticing she was in hospital, “What! Three days!â€
“There was a freak storm on the beach the day you were there. The Dr Simons believes you might have been struck by lightning. I was so worried about you,†Catherine said gently, “I’ll go get her now. She said she wanted to be informed when you were awake. Will you be alright?â€
“Yeah, sure mum,†Kara said, staring at her hands.
Catherine kissed her on the forehead, “I’ll only be a few minutes.â€
Catherine left the room. Kara took a deep breath and blew gently on her hand. A small snowflake formed. A grin split her face. It was real! It was all real.
Let me know what you think.
Oh my! She is Zeus! except more awesome since it all of the weather! Though the collapsing for three days may be a bit of a hindrance to her awesomity.
Good work, how about we try for three days in a row :D
Nice work, Araleen! Your word count is looking better and better.
Yay three days in a row. 376 words today, resulting in a total of 4218 words.
This is a continuation of what I posted yesterday. I'm just letting the story go whatever way it wants and it seems to be working for the moment. Let me know what you think :D
Kara crept quietly along the hall in the dead of the night. He mum hadn’t let her out of her sight since she’d been released from the hospital a week ago. She quietly opened the back door and slipped outside. She had to practise. She had to use that power again. She crept quietly out of the garden and down to the beach. The weak moonlight lit her way poorly and she tripped. Kara bit back a curse. She stood for a minute pondering what to do. She couldn’t see well enough to make her way back to the house to grab a torch. She didn’t want to break her leg. Her mother would freak. She clicked her fingers, thinking. Green light flared from her clicking fingers. Kara gasped in surprise. She clicked her fingers again and the green light flared around her fingers. She clicked her fingers together slowly and grabbed the green light between the thumb and forefinger of her other hand. The light remained. She stroked it and it grew to swirl around her hand. Her eyes widened as she realised what it was.
“The northern lights,†Kara whispered, “It’s so beautiful.â€
There was a rustle in the bushes further down the path. Kara’s instinct screamed at her to go back to the house. She turned and ran, holding the aurora borealis out to light her way. She let it vanish as she reached the backyard. She halted and crept through the yard, instincts telling her to get inside quickly and quietly. She carefully opened the door and slipped inside. She shut the door behind her and locked it quietly, hands trembling. She slipped down the hall and quietly into bed. Her head ached and her heart was pounding. What was out there? How did she know it was dangerous? Was it connected to her finding this weather power? Why did she even have weather power? Why did it make her collapse? She rubbed her temples. She hadn’t collapsed this time but her head killed and she was tired. Kara sighed. She was safe now. She would work the rest of it out in the morning. She climbed under the covers and exhaustion sent her swiftly into oblivion, keeping her safe. For now.

Wonderful. Something creepy is after her
Always love stories of people discovering hidden magics :).
Ominous. Very ominous. O_O
No words yesterday but 271 today resulting in a grand total of 4489. I'm almost halfway to my goal! This little story I've been writing recently is not turning out how I expected. Its very interesting the way its just deciding whatever to do on its own. Anyway here's some more of it.
Kara woke up late the next morning. Her headache was gone and she no longer felt physically tiredly. She still felt a bit tired but it was more of a mental tiredness. Not quite but more of that feeling than of physical tiredness. She got dressed slowly, thinking about her power and its likely connection to her power. She was always exhausted after using it but she wasn’t sure it that would always be the case or if it was just because she was learning to use her power. New things were always difficult and tiring at first but got easier with more practise. The first time she had used her power she had been unconscious for three days. The second time had left her with a headache and an exhausted sleep. She hadn’t really used her power in the same way the second time though. The first time she had tried lots of different things with her power very quickly. The second time she had only used one power carefully. She wasn’t sure if that was why she hadn’t been as tired the second time, or if it was because she had more practise, or if it was a mixture of both. Thinking of it as a mixture of both was probably the best idea until she knew for sure. Kara left her room and opened the door to the kitchen.
“Good morning. It’s so nice to meet you, young one,†a hooded figure said pleasantly as he held a knife to her mother, Catherine’s throat, “I would like to have a little chat, if you would be so kind.â€

Stories have a way of doing that.
Now there's a twist!
Good work on all of your writing! And congrats on almost being at your halfway mark.

Thanks everyone. You're feedback is really motivating. I didn't write anything yesterday but I wrote a lot today. I wrote some random stuff to get going then I continued what I've been writing lately. I wrote 1052 words! My total is now 5541! Halfway! So exciting. Anyway here's what I wrote that's not the random stuff.
Kara stared at the scene before her in horror.
“Let her go or you’ll regret it,†she squeaked.
The cloaked figure laughed, “Your power is weak and untrained. You are no match for me.â€
Kara stared at him fearfully. The only thing she would have been able to use against him would be her power. She could have surprised him with it so he would let her mother go. If he already knew she couldn’t do anything. He was right. She couldn’t do anything with her power without being exhausted. He sounded like his power was strong. Or at the very least if he didn’t have one then he knew how to protect himself until she became too exhausted to do anything.
“Have you finished realising there is nothing for you to do but humour me?†the cloaked figure said in amusement, “Why don’t you sit down? We can talk more comfortably then.â€
Kara nodded, seeing no other choice. She sat in the closest chair, placing her quivering hands in her lap. She had to think of a way to help her mum. What kind of useless daughter would she be if she didn’t? Maybe if she got him talking he would be distracted and she could use her power somehow.
“What…what did you want to talk about?†Kara said, voice trembling.
“Your power. There are ways to sense the use of untrained power. Yours was very easy to detect since you used so much the first time and then used it again so close to the place you first used it. The first time you discover your power is so exhilarating that you want to return to the place you first used it to capture that feeling once again. It’s a perfectly natural and quite common reaction. It is also so easily exploitable.â€
“What have you done to my mum?†Kara asked fearfully.
“Your mother is it? Not to worry, she’s only unconscious. People without powers don’t usually react very well to seeing their use. It doesn’t fit into their view of the world and often causes them to have breakdowns. I thought you probably wouldn’t want someone you cared about to have a breakdown because of you so I graciously granted you that favour.â€
“I don’t understand what you want,†Kara whispered, “Why are you here?â€
“It’s simple. I want you to use your power to help me in exchange for not harming your mother.â€
Kara stared at him in shock and with no idea how to reply.
“You don’t have to give me an answer now. I’ll give you three days to decide.â€
He pulled a piece of paper from the folds of his cloak.
“This is a map to where you can find me. You have three days to decide and make it here. If you don’t make it in time I’ll assume you have rejected my offer and I will no longer have any use for your mother. If you make it in time and agree to help me her safety will be ensured. I’ll see you in three days.â€
The cloaked figure scooped Catherine into his arms and leapt out the open kitchen window.
“Wait!†Kara screamed.
She ran to the window. She stretched her hand out after them. A icicle shot from her hand toward them. It missed the running cloaked figure, falling over his shoulder before he vanished around a corner. Kara leapt out the window after them and ran.
“Wait!†she screamed, “Wait!â€
She slipped as she turned the corner, crashing to the ground. She looked up, arms and legs grazed and bleeding to see an empty path. The cloaked figure was gone and so was her mum. Kara rested her head against the gravel and sobbed. This was all her fault.

Kara lay miserably on the gravel, hating herself for not being able to save her mum. What was the use of her power if she couldn’t protect the people she cared about? The cloaked figure was right, she was no match. How was she ever going to save her mum? She’d been taken who knows where and was probably well protected so she couldn’t save her with her weak power anyway. Wait! Kara scrambled to her feet and ran back to the house. There was a map! She could find her mum! All she had to do was get there and agree to help. Once she agreed to help there would surely be an opportunity to escape with her mum. She would also be trained and be able to use her power properly. Kara grabbed the map off the table and looked at it eagerly. Her face fell. According to the map, her mother was in the middle of a desert. There were no roads, no flights and no way she would be able to walk there in three days. What was she supposed to do? She couldn’t give up but it was impossible to achieve. She dropped the map back on the table and sat down with her head in her hands. Blood dripped with her injured arms and legs. She would never forgive herself if she didn’t try. Kara stood up, determined. She quickly treated her wounds and gathered the supplies she would need for a three day journey. She grabbed the map last and stood at the door, looking back at her home. Would she ever make it there let alone back? She shook her head. All she could do was try. Kara shut the door and set out, walking along the same path her mother had vanished from. From the shadows an ominous presence followed, watching and waiting patiently for the most opportune moment.
