As Elspeth is climbing the wall to make her escape, the soldierguards spot her and order her to halt. As she gets ready to coerce the nearest guard into not seeing her, Maruman jumps out of the shadows and scratches another one across the head. At this point the other misfits who had come to rescue Elspeth, jump out of hiding and start to hit the soldierguards over the head with rocks. The guards have no time to react and all fall unconscious to the ground. The misfits make their escape.
3. Who out of all the Misfits would win the Hunger Games and why? (The Hunger Games Trilogy, Suzanne Collins) I’m guessing her as I’ve never read the books, but I think Javo would win as he seems to like his food more than the others.

Hooked up electronically to go off as the fight started. Would have scared them wiles and they would still be running when they hit the ocean.

As pain and fear are not inductive of a great minibreak, that leaves them with Sador.

(Harry Potter series by JK Rowling) Educational Decree number 1: I, Proffessor Umbridge am now Master of Obernewtyn. All further Educational Decrees must be obeyed on pain of hand over to the council. Educational Decree number 2: No beasts are allowed in the buildings of Obernewtyn. Beasts belong in barns and pens. Educational Decree number 3: There will be no singing in the dining area. This area is for eating, not for enjoyment. Educational Decree number 4: All misfits must be in their rooms by 8pm. Lights out at 8.30. Tired misfits cannot learn. Educational Decree number 5: any misfit caught trying to escape will be given to the Herders.

Elspeth remained at the Orphan Home, hiding her true nature as much as she could. Her friendship with Rosamund grew, as both keenly felt the loss of Jes. When The Boy came, it was Rosamund who was drawn into the plot (she hoped to be able to get to Jes, somehow), and when the Soldierguards attacked, Elspeth actually tried to save Rosamund, and in the process, the “black killing power†wiped her own mind, leaving her to be classified as Defective.
3. Who out of all the Misfits would win the Hunger Games and why? (The Hunger Games Trilogy, Suzanne Collins)
Javo – no one would ever go hungry, so there would be no need for the games.

She would rate it as 3 stars – she enjoyed parts of it, but was very troubled by how closely it mirrored her own life, and so took stars of for existential crisis.

Sador, while delightful as a “sandy paradise’, was deemed too hot, Sutruim, with its “cosmopolitan nightlife†was nonetheless somewhere they have both visited often. Norseland however, is “overseasâ€, but only a short trip away, and is delightfully free of volcanos to ruin your travel plans!

Katlyn stood, with a platform of better eco-firendliness, and more space for gardening at Obernewtyn (she’d be a Green at heart). Gruffyd stood, with a platform of more homemade ale (he’s essentially the Party Party). However, because these two could not bear to compete too strongly against each other (and their PDAs were verging on gag-worthy), the third candidate – Destroyer Pig, won the election with a platform of “Oink, oink, oink-y oinkâ€.

Pug – noisy, small enough to be carted around everywhere, and kinda cute (unbearably so to Maruman himself). His name would be Dante – which means obstinate.

Haimi. In Hawaiian it means ‘the seeker’. One of the Agyllian’s who was in Hawaii before the Great White thought it was perfect, and visited Mr & Mrs Gordie on a number of occasions while Mrs Gordie was pregnant, whispering the name in their ears.

Jes has very powerful Corercer talents and manages to coerce the spectators surrounding the showdown that the soldierguards killed him. What really happened was Jes and his friends killing the soldierguards while the soldierguards were blinded by what they saw as massive bunny rabbits. Suffice to say they were too stunned to fight back against the beats. Jes escaped, and he wanted to tell Rosamunde the truth, but didn’t want to continually burden her with his problems. He left her behind so that she could have some semblance of a normal life *tear*.
3. Who out of all the Misfits would win the Hunger Games and why? (The Hunger Games Trilogy, Suzanne Collins)
Freya. She would make everyone overconfident, they would make mistakes. And no-one would come after her as she looks sweet and docile. Therefore her competitors don’t realise she’s a threat until after everyone else has killed each other.

Hermione’s time turner from Harry Potter. Just go back to before the council took hold and drop some extra radioactive bombs on them for good measure. Problem solved.

Putting an injured rabbit into a hat and pulling out a rabbit covered in bandages. He’ll be sure to get all of the females due to his sensitive nature and love of animals *cough*.

Rushton went dressed as Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia. He became very attached to the sword and even attempted the accent (didn’t work so well, but brownie points for trying!). Swallow went as the leader of the Majai from the Mummy series. Halfway through the event, he even had a fight with a person dressed as O’Connell. Obviously O’Connell won. Duh. And Brydda went, but didn’t think much about his costume beforehand and ended up having Rushton give him puppy dog ears. Suffice to say, Brydda wasn’t happy.

She would give it 5 out of 5 and write ‘BEST BOOK EVER’. As Isobelle Carmody created her, it’s the least she can do.

Well firstly Sador is a sandy barren wasteland, so you wouldn’t want to go there. And since it’s recently been released by Black Dog media, some horrible plague seeds were recently found on Norseland, so I suggest you stay far away from there as well. What I’d really recommend is Sutrium. You can stay in one of their comfortable inns where you get robbed blind or abused by Herders/Soldierguards, or you can stay in the lovely safe house (just make sure you ask for the password from the homeless Misfits on the corner of Oxley and Fifth). For entertainment, the council hosts daily executions, or if that’s not your style, you can go to the docks where slavers are looking for their next prey. Just remember – if a nice man offers you candy to see if the rust in a cage will hold during a sea voyage – tell him that ‘Horrible Travel Agents’ sent you and help out the poor old man. He's rather colour-blind and can't see rust very well.

iii. Zarak – ‘Young blood rules!’. He’ll just go around making everyone his friend and getting his girlfriend Aras to convince everyone to vote for him using her amazing brain smarts.

He would be a staffy named ‘Blacky’. He was a present for a little boy in the beforetime and the boy was permitted to name him. Blacky later argued with the Agyllian’s that it was a rather undignified name and no ‘seeker’ would take him seriously. They permitted him to change it to ‘Awesome’ for the purpose of watching over the seeker. A staffy because they look dangerous but they are big softies at heart.

What is Elspeth’s middle name, and why does it indicate she is the Seeker?
Her middle name is Rosita, a combination of Rose and Zita. Both are of European origin, Rose meaning 'rose - beautiful, female, passion, thorns' and Zita, of Greek origin, meaning 'Seeker'. (And Elspeth has physical features rather similar to those of Greek ethnicity - "A typical Greek has thick and wavy to curly black hair. Often there is a tendency to lighter colored eyes such as green, hazel and blue."

Since Jes is sent to Obernewtyn, Rosamunde is no longer caught up in the misfits' activities. Elspeth is solitary, and hesitant to trust in others - she doesn't let the other minds in. When the others come to break out the boy (the boy Jes had befriended), she is not part of it. The friends are slain before they can complete their mission. The soldier guards arrest the boy and attempt to purge the orphan home of misfits. Elspeth is taken too, because of her bad record, and is dragged before the Council.

Ariel would win, he is utterly ruthless, and able to make others do his bidding. He would not have to be physically fit and able to survive well in the wild, he would simply make the others do all the work for him, and do away with everyone he no longer needed. He can make people enjoy hurting others (like Domick/Mika hurting Rushton), so would not even necessarily need to get his hands dirty.

Facebook and social media would have allowed them to coordinate their attacks, and spread the word, like the Arab Spring Riots. The council, shunning all technology, would have no clue.

You don't want to go to Sutrium, you've been there heaps of times before, and it's all grotty and dirty - that's not the sort of place you want to go on holiday is it? And Sador is so hot at this time of year, and because it's not the Days of Rain, you'll hardly see anyone, all the tribes will be on the move. I'd really recommend Norseland, neither of you have been there, and you're on good terms with its King. And the people are really nice.

He's not brooding enough to be Rushton, and I don't see him as a villain...He'd be cast to play Roland: tall, strong, a good guy but brusque and with a temper.

As winter fell around Winterfell, Daffyd was outside when a blizzard blew in and he was lost in the snow. Winterfell being the capital of the north, it lies beyond the mountains to the north of the Land. In the freezing blizzard, Daffyd kept moving to avoid being frozen to death, and ended up in the Land.

With the moonfair over, Angina buried, the Redland expedition about to begin, and Elspeth MIA, everyone is feeling a bit flat and sad. Dameon, knowing he's about to leave, requests a song. Ceirwan will obviously be a candidate, and his steadfastness, eagerness, and compassion will make him an excellent choice. He will try to expand the Obernewtyn shire outside the walls of Obernewtyn proper and build a village.
Against him will be running Avra, campaigning for the animals and for better rights - she will try to bring animals inside the buildings.
The other candidate is Harwood, the coercer knight. He will encourage Obernewtyn to take a more active role in the running of the land and the protection of those in need.

2. Jes Gordie was sent to Obernewtyn, and Elspeth was left at the orphanage. Explain how the showdown with the soldierguards at Kinraide (the one in which Jes originally died, if you're lost) plays out differently. Elspeth meets “that boy†and the boy is intrigued by her. He shows her that he has farseeker powers too but he wants to know how she coerces and how she speaks to beasts so they end up becoming friends. Elspeth stays with Rosamunde, who is still distraught that Jes got sent away. When the boy tells Elsepth that some of the group have been discovered, she decides that they should run away. Elspeth wants Rosamunde to come with her but Rosamunde, being emotional and depressed decides to leap out of the window instead and gets shot with the arrow. Elspeth, seeing this and feeling pangs of grief claw at her, runs out of the house. She encounters a horse and she beast speaks him and he obliges to carry her as he recognises her as Innle. From there, she makes her way north to Obernewtyn with Maruman running after her.

Whilst everyone decided to make a pact to not kill one another, Gavyn wandered off in search for Rasial who had secretly entered the Arena. As the game masters were finding a way to kill off the group, it was actually Freya who doomed them all. Being the only one who could cook in the group, she managed to make a nice stew with some of the plants they had found. Since it tasted quite bad, she decided to add some [strike]poisonous[/strike] berries to it to sweeten the taste. Within 10 minutes, everyone had died, except Gavyn (and Rasial).
4. What one piece of technology (from our world or from fictional sci-fi worlds) do you think would have allowed the rebels to overthrow the Council, and why would it have worked? Tasers. It means that the rebels can stand quite far away (10m according to Wikipedia) from the councilmen when attacking them. Plus, it incapacitates them so hopefully fewer lives will be lost and it’ll be easier to round them up. If any of the councilmen try to run away, they’ll get tasered again. Also, hopefully the sight of it will shock the councilmen and distract them, giving the rebels more time to take over.
5. What is Roland's party trick? He can stick his fist in his mouth, scaring all of the newbie Misfits each year at Moonfair.

1. Brydda Llewellyn – The Hulk (Brydda accidentally fell into the vat of green dye his dad had left lying around, thus dying his skin green. He spent the day giving people "Hulk Hugs". Brydda wasn’t sure why, but he was quite popular with the girls at Comic-Con. )
2. Ariel – Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 (Ariel wanted to find a character with similar hair to his, who was also a villain. Who else but Sephiroth? Plus, he secretly wanted to hold a long sword.)
3. Rushton – Tamaki senpai from Ouran High School Host Club. (Rushton was under the impression that Elspeth would be there as Haruhi, but he was unfortunately misinformed. He was so disappointed that he spent most of Comic-con crouched in the corner tearing up his program sheet.)
7. Elspeth finds a copy of The Sending in the Beforetime Library. How would she review the book on Amazon, and what rating would she give it? The Sending – 8/10. This book is clearly written by a futureteller from the Beforetime. They must have been very skilled as they were able to see the actions and decisions that I would take. I am glad that my journey has been recorded and it gives me faith that I am doing what needs to be done. However, I have given this book a rating of 8/10 for a number of reasons. What I do with Rushton should be between him and I and not for Futuretellers to disclose to others and I still don’t know why Dameon was acting so strange.
8. Freya and Ceirwan are booking a minibreak. As their travel agent, explain why they should consider either a) Sador, b) Norseland, or c) Sutrium, as the destination (and bonus for why they shouldn't choose the other two). As Freya’s life-long dream is to be a culinary expert and when I look at Ceirwan, he seems to be quite pale and heshould really get some sun (and vitamin D) so I suggest that they should consider Sador as their destination. They will be able to relax in the pools during the day and spend the nights wandering the night festivals. I can also book them a culinary tour where they learn the art of choca and preparing smoked fish.
Norseland should be avoided as, though it is a wonderful place, they are still developing and rebuilding so it won’t be very relaxing or exciting. Sutrium should be avoided as there’s nothing exciting to do there (plus it rains too much and Ceirwan would probably catch a cold).
9. The Agyllians help the Seeker, so what animal assists the Destroyer, and where do they live? Pigs. In the first book, Rushton is seen carrying a small squealing pig. The reason why it was squealing was to get the attention of Ariel. The pig’s mother was the “elder†who had made it her life goal to come into contact with Ariel, but since Ariel detested the farms she could never meet with him. Once the piglet was born, the mother bade it to find Ariel and to pass on her message to him. The rest of the pigs actually resided at the Druid’s camp, but after the firestorm, they moved to a nearby cave.
10.If Obernewtyn was to be made into a TV series, which role would Nathan Fillion be cast to play? (as seen on Castle, Serenity, Firefly, Buffy, Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, etc)? Henry Druid would suit him the most, but since I’m a huge fan of Nathan Fillion, I’d also cast him as the voice of Galtha just so he could be in more episodes. I'd love it if he could play Gilbert, but having an adult crush on a teenage girl might be a bit too strange.
11.If Professor Umbridge suddenly appeared at Obernewtyn, what would her first five ‘Educational Decrees’ be about? (Harry Potter series by JK Rowling) Educational Decree #1: There shall be no animals present at the guildmerge meetings.
This is the only Educational Decree she manages to make before deciding that she wants to head down to Sutrium to meet up with a relative of hers. Rumour has it that some of the Coercer Knights coerced her to go. She went with the Magi group that was heading to Sutrium the next morning, along with some Coercer Knights who were there to “escort†and “guard†her. A missive was received in a seven-day from the Coercer Knights saying that they left Professor Umbridge at a healing centre on the way to Sutrium because she was having delusions and babbling about being a “witch†(whatever that was) and was brandishing a stick around quite dangerously.
12.Explain how Daffyd is really a long-lost son of Winterfell, and true heir to the Iron Throne (A Song of Ice and Fire, George RR Martin / Game of Thrones on HBO) Daffyd is actually the son of Ned Stark and Cersei Lannister. Ned and Cersei were secretly engaged and two weeks before Cersei was due to be married to Robert Baratheon, they spent a night together and Cersei became pregnant. Cersei, having to choose between Robert and Ned, chose Robert because he was from a more reputable house and she severed ties with Ned. When Daffyd was born she claimed that the child was Robert’s. Cersei sent him away as a child with one of her cousins as he was starting to resemble Ned. She paid her cousin copious amounts of money to take him someplace far away so he could never return. She then went around saying that she saw her son drown and pretending to be distraught and crying like crazy so people would believe that he had died. After Robert dies, Daffyd should be the heir (as he is older than Joffrey) as it was claimed and witnessed (somehow) that he was actually Robert and Cersei’s son.
13.If Rushton was on Obernet, what would his username be, and which guild would he be in? Rushie4elf. It was originally MoOb, but he changed it after a sugar high from all the choca he was consuming one night. He decides to join the Wandies because they promised him free solid choca in the form of “Tim Tamsâ€.
14.What will the last song played at tomorrow night's nightmeal be? Who will request it for who, and why? Bonus for youtube linking to it. Dameon will sing Rick Astley’s “Never gonna give you up†Karaoke style (dance moves included). He will dedicate it to Rushton and Elspeth, but secretly, he’s actually singing this to Elspeth. After his performance, it was silently agreed amongst all present to never give Dameon the microphone ever again.
15.It's election time at Obernewtyn! With Elspeth/Rushton/Dameon/practically everyone MIA as part of the Redland expedition, which three well-known OC characters will be running for Obernewtyn Chieftain? What will their core policies be? How will they gain the upper hand on the other candidates?’
Ceirwan – He will gain the upper hand by using his slogan: Choose Ceirwan for Chieftain! Freya will also provide people with her delicious snacks and she will be his right hand lady. Together they will continue to run Obernewtyn as it is and uphold its traditions but they will work better and more efficiently (thanks to Freya).
Miky – Miky herself doesn’t nominate herself, but instead many of the Empaths have nominated on her behalf. She is actually still recovering, but she said with Hannai’s help she will be willing to run for Chieftain. She has the experience from running the Empath guild and will put her all into it. She will continue to find ways to nuture each person’s talents and they will have more intertalent bonding activities. Her upperhand is that all the Empaths will most likely vote for her.
Maryon – she doesn’t say why she is running but that it is imperative that she do so. She says nothing about whether or not she saw that she would win, she just says that if she doesn’t run Obernewtyn will fall.
16. If Maruman was a dog, what breed of dog would he be, and what would his name be? A little pug dog and his name would be Namuram.

1. Clueless. Clueless is quite simply clueless. If Elf had clues, she wouldn’t have a need to seek and therefore wouldn’t be called the Seeker. I'll admit, it's an unfortunate middle name, and it's no wonder we've never heard it mentioned once.
2. In the Elspeth vs soldierguards showdown Maruman intervenes, hissing and swatting at the soldierguards. Being dark, the soldierguards find it difficult to see what exactly is attacking them, and are frightened by the vicious noises the cat emits. They randomly shoot their arrows in the hope they will find a target, and end up shooting each other instead. Of course, Elspeth used the coercive technique she did in The Farseekers to ‘play’ hide and seek, so that the arrows missed her. Once the soldierguards found themselves moaning and groaning on the ground, Elspeth locates the still hissing Maruman, who is rather smug when she compliments him, and takes off without a backward glance. Meanwhile Rosamunde is looking out the window, frightened by what she’d seen, uncertain what she should do or say.
3. Domick. He has what it takes to do the hard stuff, that is, if need be he’d kill to survive. Not that he would need to of course, because he’d simply use his talent to plant suggestions on who the biggest threats were, which the ‘careers’ would proceed to either target or recruit. We already knows he’s an excellent spy, so joining the careers would be no problem for him, and he’d be brilliant at planning ways to use the environment against everyone. Of course, throughout this he’d still be conflicted, but I have no doubt that once in the arena he would live by kill or be killed.
4. Torchwood contact lenses, with their corresponding computers of course (they’re a set). Domick could have worn the contacts whilst working at the Councilcourt, while Brydda and the rebels monitored everything. Depending on what went on behind closed doors, the information could then be shared with the public by form of rumours to undermine authority and cause the public to overthrow the Council, or it could be used to blackmail them into disbanding the Council.
5. Roland spends his time in the Healer’s Hall, creating various healing concoctions. Most however are ineffective and completely revolting. His trick therefore is to drink any concoction placed before him… even by Zarak and Lina, and not even bat an eye.
6. Gwynedd cosplayed as Thor, although security prevented him from entering with his hammer for two reasons: it was massive and it was not made of foam. Kella cosplayed as Kaylee Frye (Firefly), wearing her iconic overalls and simply saying ‘Shiny!’ a lot. Elspeth also attended, although it was not her choice. Rather, Rushton had stumbled across a rather puffy and frilly dress, yellow in colour. Jak discovered a picture book of Beauty and the Beast, and Rushton drew parallels between the story and his life, and insisted that Elspeth go to Comicon as Belle. She was blushing scarlet as he admired her when she was ready.
7. Elspeth would give The Sending a rating of 4 out 5. Her review would be more of a rant, as follows:
Why Cassie, why? When did you tell Ms Carmody about me? About the quest? Are you trying to help the Destroyer by revealing my identity? And in such detail – did my love life really need to make the book? Can’t a girl have some privacy? That aside, where can I get The Red Queen? I desperately want to know how it ends. More to the point, will Rushton live???
8. Norseland’s the place to go right now. Everything’s settled down there since Gwynedd freed it from the Herders, and it hasn’t been overrun by Land people. There’s plenty of open, green space to enjoy, taking long romantic strolls through the woods or along the beaches at sunset. The lack of crowds give privacy and a sense of freedom that you wouldn’t be able to find in Sutrium. Everything’s clean, something no one can say about Sutrium, and the weather’s nice, neither too hot like Sador’s desert, nor too cold. There is also the added bonus that neither of you have ever been to Norseland, though you’ve both been to Sutrium and Freya Sador.
9. There’s a reason we call it the Destroyer Pig right? Right. The Destroyer is aided by pigs, specifically those living on the farms at Obernewtyn. Chief pig happens to be Rushton’s best friend, and before you go jumping to conclusions about Rushton, the pig is spying on him to get to Elspeth.
10. From his performance as Caleb in Buffy, I am confident that he is the only person for the role of Malik. Whilst Nathan Fillion plays fun roles brilliantly, he is one creepy villain, but with him playing Malik, people won’t be able to do anything but trust Malik, and be completely horrified and outraged by his betrayal of the Misfits. I’m getting chills just picturing one of his creepy smirks.
11. Educational Decree Number One: All guilds are hereby disbanded.
Educational Decree Number Two: Any Misfit with coercive talent are forbidden from approaching Professor Umbridge.
Educational Decree Number Three: All Misfits must register their talents.
Educational Decree Number Four: Lina and Zarak are forbidden from any pranking.
Educational Decree Number Five: All beasts are to remain out doors at all times, excluding felines. Should any feline wish to spend time inside, they must first gain approval and receive a makeover from Professor Umbridge.

13. Username: MasterAngel. This of course is his ‘subtle’ attempt to disguise who he is (Seraphim=Angel), while still asserting himself as ‘Master’. He would not however assign himself to a guild, because, true to his nature, it is impossible for him to truly feel like he belongs to a specific guild. He prefers to be ‘no guild’ and considers himself to therefore be free for everyone, no favourites. Well, except for Elspeth.
14. I found the chosen song rather sad. It was chosen by Miky, for her brother Angina. The song was ‘Rescue Me’ by Kerrie Roberts. Knowing what happens between the twins, it really is touching.

15. Maryon, because she had a vision (which she neglected to mention to the other candidates), Lina and Ceirwan. Maryon intends on lending guild members to those who are plagued by true dreams, to help them make sense of their dreams without be overwhelmed. Lina wishes to implement a mandatory games hour twice a week involving everyone at Obernewtyn, during which the guilds will compete in various sports. Ceirwan intends on updating the systems used by other guildleaders when it comes to planning, as he feels that few of them are able to manage their Master/Mistress efficiently enough, especially the Teknoguild. Maryon gets ahead by using an air of mysteriousness, giving vague hints about her vision, causing people to think that she knows something of great importance. Lina gets ahead by engaging with the younger Misfits, who really love the idea of playing more often, studying less. Ceirwan is considered by most to be the best candidate, since he is the most clear-minded of the candidates, has experience running a guild and is known to be a brilliant organiser, which is how he gets ahead.
16. Maruman would be a Chihuahua, named Maximus. As Merimyn he was quite playful, and I can see him running about Elspeth’s feet, yipping away, and sleeping more the older he got, nipping anyone who disturbed him. The name Maximus because despite being a small dog, he can be quite vicious, and is very stubborn, with strong will power.
