Since life has been furiously attacking me for the past few weeks, I've been pushing my writing to the side - but no longer! At 1 this morning I broke my writing drought! [act]cheers[/act] I couldn't sleep so I decided instead of just lying there like a ninny I should actually try and be productive and put my non-sleepingness to use!
I said I wanted to write 20, 000 words and between this and another short story I'm writing it should be doable.
So far my story has not title and a lot of the characters are unnamed (though none of the unnamed characters have been introduced yet) but I've outlined the basic plot (something I've never done before but am finding exceedingly helpful).
This is all just a basic first draft as I've decided if I try to edit I'll never actually accomplish any writing. I was happy with it when I was writing but I bet there are several thousand things I'd like to change when I re-read it. This is only part of the prologue at the moment but I'll see if I can finish it off sometime in the next 24 hours!
It's written in third person and I'm aiming for it to be a fairly long piece of work so it may take quite sometime to complete. I suppose it would fit in the YA Fantasty genre (a genre I adore) and I won't give too much away but it involves murder, revenge, evil, romance and magic/power! There are also some not nice elements to it but I don't want the story to be too dark so I'm not sure how much I'll go into them yet.

Here a snippet from the start of my prologue...
Hidden within the darkness of the wine cupboard, Wrelle could only just see her mother through a small crack in the door. She'd been sent here as soon as her brother was born and had been squatting in the same position for well over three hours. Her older sister, Mendi was hiding in the cupboard next to her and Wrelle could hear her quick, worried breaths through the wood between them. Wrelle knew she should be worried too, terrified even, but she was only small and had not yet lived to see the horrors this world possessed.
Cries shattered the still silence of the room and Wrelle shifted her attention to the infant cradled in her mother's arms. He'd been crying on and off since he first took a breath and Wrelle longed to take him in her arms and rock away his fearful sobs.
She'd never seen a baby before. Wrelle's only sibling had been Mendi and she had grown up long before Wrelle had even been born. Wrelle's parents shut her away, claiming she was too young to know the truths of the world. She'd never set a foot outside their fence until two months ago, but that was before her father died.

I have written more but interfering life is at it again. Places to go, people to see. :P My total word count so far is 364! I shall update again later today or tomorrow depending on how much I get done.

Great start Meri. I love the names, very different but easy on the mind.
Certainly an ineteresting beginning. I'm definitely wondering why the kids have been sent into cupboards.
Oh children in cupboards. Most promising!
I changed how I wanted to start this in my mind several times and when I finally put pen to paper this is what came out.
I've written a little more but still haven't named any other characters so for now they're just called *A*, *B*, etc. I'm sure they'll get names soon. :P
Word Count is currently 514 and since I have a free (mostly) day tomorrow, I'm hoping to get it up to at least 1000! :D
Ooh, I like that! And I love the name Wrelle! I can't wait to read more :D
How goes the progress, Meri. A and B have names yet?
Can we have some more words, please? :)
