I don't believe that she is immortal. That would take away part of her charm, but I do not think that she can be killed by a normal weapon. eg knifes and arrows.
I think that if she died it would be through a misfit power, ie. someone else has the killing power. Maybe just maybe (I just had this idea) that Rushton might have the killing power and maybe kill her BUT BY ACCIDENT!!!
Or maybe not
Its still an idea!

no, i dont reckon she is immortal, maybe shes just lucky?? i dont think the stuff Atthis gave her wouldnt let her die, i thin it just speeded up the healing process. if she was immortal, the book might go on forever [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif" alt=":o" border="0"/> hehehe

her healing powers might stop her from aging as well,
she might be killed by killing powers or decapitation or something, but if she isnt killed, her powers may make her immortal to death by aging,
imagine, after all your friends die, you just keep going on,
that would be the cruelest punishment [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/cry.gif" alt=":'(" border="0"/>
I don't think she's immortal. She's just the main character & can't die, but us readers need some thrillers to think that she might die.
then that way, we'll go onto that obernewtyn.net site & argue about it.
that tricky IC! hehe
aye, i agree, it makes her more likeable and more human when we know that she can die...and then it makes her seem a much stronger misfit because she can heal herself so quickly.
Yeah, agrreing with the not immortal doodah. But, maybe Atthis etc are watching over her, indirectly helping her to heal herself etc - you know like in Legendsong the watcher intervenes sometimes? Maybe there are other keeping Elspeth safe until she completes her quest...then she's on her own...I can could see her dying at the end maybe? You know the whole, using her last bit of strength the save the world and all that. Then again, not IC's style. Stop listening/reading now, I'm not making sense.

dont feel silly lucy!
i sometimes think that Elspeth will die,
and how are we to know what I.C's style is?
she hasnt written the last book to for of her Chronicles [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
Yeah, I have this niggling thought in the back of my mind that she'll die, but I can't bring myself to fully believe it. I know we don't know IC's style, but just going on her other books and series I can't see her going for that sort of ending. It's a bit too soppy I think. Also, being a self proclamed romantic, she'll have to end it with Elspeth and Rushton getting together...and that can't happen if Elf dies!

She might prove us all wrong, kill off Elspeth and go for the "it doesnt always end well" kind of finish
NO..that is not at all. Can't you just imagine all those fans going into depression because she died.....it would be in human to do that to all those fans on the edge of their seats waiting for her to be the hero I beleive in *stops abruptly* did i type that out loud??????
Brownie
yes BrOwNiE, you did [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif" alt=":D" border="0"/> [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/grin.gif" alt=";D" border="0"/>
Yeah, I with you HeartoftheDarkness, It'd be sad if everyone died and Elspeth kept on living. It'd be like the Arkarian thingo in THE KEY. Hehe. Poor Rushton ... he'd get all AULD and she'd still be eighteen or twentyfive or whatever ... wah.
But, the knife that that dirty Herder threw at her only hit her with the hilt. She simply THOUGHT that the blade went into her head *ouch*. The herder is not that much of a good throw...
lana of the dragons
I know she came to the conclusion that the hilt hit her...but who cannot see that she was stabbed in the head and her healing powers saved her from the long sleep. anyways doesn't she think something like 'I am dead'...

it would be a bit hard to think, if a knife was in your skull and you were dead.
it would be cool if the blade actually did hit her though.
oh mighty elspeth, my hero
Heartofthedarkness you haven't died so you can't say that when you die you won't think "I am dead"
I think she was about a milli second away from death but her healing powers kicked in. She was definately hit with the blade.

i think she was hit by the blade as well, but that would be an injury were she would go to the mindstream right?
so wouldn't atthis talk to her or something?
i dunno anymore
dont pressure me!!
wouldnt matthew have seen if the blade went right thru her or not? i mean even if in the melee (love that word) he got confused and didnt see staigh away theres no way her powers couldnt have kicked in so fast that it covered up the hole in her head surely?
It didn't say how long there was between the time she was hit and the time Zarak (I think that is who it was) reached Matthew. Also if her ehaling powers kicking pretty much straight away (As I think that they do) she would have been saved from death.
ANother thing with her healing powers is that I think they only work when she is subconcious.....Think about it!
When she was whipped she must have slept at sometime.
When the tattoo was put on she went to sleep at sometime.
And when the blade supposedly hit her she was sorta knocked into subconcious.
Brownie
I think you could be right because being whipped is obviously not as bad as having a knife in your head. Yet those whip wounds were obviously still very open when Maire was dressing them say, approximately half an hour later . It wasn't until some time after that she went to sleep and the next time they were checked after that they were healed. Opposed to her being unconcious straight away when she was hit by the knife.
With Matthew, he thought that the blade had hit her, since she was covered in blood. When she was okay, he assumed it was Iriny's blood, but...
Galtha was panicked, wasn't he? And he isn't the sort of character to get worried easily. He's normally very calm. So he must have thought that the blade hit her too...
I'll agree with the "can't be killed by ordinary means, but isn't immortal" theory.

the horse was actually Zade, and he was probably panicking about what Galtha would do to him when he found out Elf was hurt [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
I think the herder is just a bad throw. She would have been deaddead if it had hit her, and there was NO BLOOD ON HER CLOTHES!! Also, there was still a bruise on her head. Her healing powers wouldve healed it all.

but Matthew said that she was covered in blood!!
her powers didnt have enough time to fully heal her by the time they got to obernewtyn, but they healed her enough so that all she had was a concussion and a bump
HOTD I agree! Being stabbed in the head is pretty serious, its going to take a little while to heal completely.
