Chapter 2
Three days later, as the dawn was rising, and golden rays of light filled the sky, the three of them met in the Rose Garden, fully equipped with food, clothes and weapons for their protection. All three had a bow and arrows, and Andarel a sword, with blue sapphires at the hilt. Nobody except the elven leader of the forest Landoreaf knew what they were going to do, in fact, nobody else knew they were going at all.
As they were putting their packs on their backs, the elven leader, Oakari, a tall, long silver haired elf, with a long sort of face that could be like a happy child’s one minute, and solemn the next. Currently she was quickly walking over to them, her face grave and her green eyes that could shine like emeralds, were troubled.
“I see you are ready to go,†she said when she stopped in front of them. “I wish you good luck on your journey, and I give you these gifts in hope in hope that they will help you.†Oakari turned to Arvee and took out of a bag made of leaves a sword of silver and gold with a dark green emerald at the hilt with a golden tree design on a silver sheath. When she handed it to Arvee, Arvee took the sword and whispered with shining eyes, “Thank you,†and attached it to her belt.
Oakari then turned to Ariana and took out a gold and silver tiara encrusted with amethysts and diamonds that glittered in the light. With it she took out also a necklace, ring and bracelet that matched, and placed the tiara on Ariana’s head. As she finished clasping the bracelet on, she said, “These are yours, given to me by your father when he left you. They will guide you to the sword, and give you hope.â€
When she turned to Andarel, she pulled out a little gold with emerald leaves, on a chain of gold. Oakari then took the hilt of Andarel’s sword and attached the chain to it. When it was attached she looked up at Andarel and spoke. “May you remember your home and friends whenever you draw or gaze at your sword. I give your sword the name Watera, meaning ‘Blade of Water’. Oakari then turned to Arvee again. “Arvee, the name of your blade shall be Natura, meaning ‘Sword of Nature’.†Oakari then turned to face the three of them. “Bear these gifts well, and use them wisely. Now I say farewell to you all, and may we meet again.†When she spoke these last words, teary-eyed she turned and walked out of the garden.
When she was out of sight, Andarel spoke. “Let’s go then. I think we should try going east first to see if we can find the sword.â€
“Let’s go then!†Arvee said excitedly. So they set off together, Andarel and Ariana leading the way out, with Arvee following behind. When they were near the edge of the forest, Andarel turned around and whistled in such a way that it sounded like the call of a bell-bird. In answer to his call, three horses came out of the forest towards them. Two of them were white, Andarel’s and Ariana’s horses, Icefire and Glitteri. The other horse was Greylick, Arvee’s grey horse.
“They each chose to come of their own free will. They are prepared for what may come,†Andarel said as he swung himself up on Icefire’s back, without a saddle. The girls followed suit, and in single file left the forest.
“Will we see fairies?†Arvee asked. “Are we going to the fairy forest, Fairyia?â€
“Yes we will be going to Fairyia to see if we can find the sword there. I also need to see someone who lives there.â€
Chapter 3
They travelled on the road for some time, passing streams, mountains and green fields, before stopping at a camping ground, in a cave in the side of the mountain, with bushes at the cave entrance. It was getting dark, and they were all exhausted
“Andarel, are we going to camp here? We’re exhausted,†Ariana asked when they stopped there. “We’ve been travelling for hours.â€
“Yes we will be stopping here. It is a camping ground that is safe for elves and fairies who are travelling. We still have two more days of travel before we reach Fairyia.†Andarel looked east as he spoke.
The girls were the first to swing down from their horses, and Arvee lit the fire while Ariana fed the horses and Andarel got the food ready. They were going to have bread and some leaves called Ambrel, minty leaves that filled and satisfied the belly, as well as cleaning your teeth and giving you fresh breath.
After they had eaten, they decided to go to bed because they were planning to get up at dawn and set off. During the night, when Andarel and Arvee were asleep, Ariana heard rustling in the bushes. The moon was big and bright and the stars were twinkling in the velvety sky. The night was silent, not a sound was to be heard, except for the occasional rustle.
Ariana lay awake the rest of the night, deciding what to do, until it was time to get up. After a hasty breakfast, the three set off again.
For a while they were quiet, until Arvee broke the silence. “How long until we reach Fairyia, Andarel? If we hurry, might we make it today?†She could barely contain her excitement.
“The earliest we will get there,†he answered slowly, “Will be tomorrow at about ten o’clock in the morning. That is if we ride hard and fast.â€
“Will we be going to-†Arvee was saying until she stopped abruptly, noticing Andarel and Ariana eying each other off. “- ride hard and fast?†she continued, and then noticed the cloud of dust beside her where Andarel and Ariana had been. Realising what they had done, Arvee sped up Greylick to try and catch them.
When she had caught up, they had travelled 120km away from Landoreaf. Andarel and Ariana had slowed down to a canter, so as not to tire the horses out.

They travelled all day, stopping occasionally to give the horses a break or to have a bite to eat. The three of them spoke very little as they rode, each of them thinking about something very different to the other. Ariana had been thinking about the previous night, wondering what it could mean. She was in thought, and almost didn’t notice it, but out of the corner of her eye, on the left of the path, she saw the bush rustle, and saw a set of eyes watching her as she passed.
She stopped abruptly, and called out to her friends, “Guys, come backâ€, because they hadn’t noticed her stop. When they came over to see what was wrong, the eyes disappeared, as if hoping not to be noticed.
“What’s wrong?†Arvee asked curiously.
“We’re being followed.â€
Arvee looked back blankly.
“Our followers are in that bush,†she said pointing at the bush in which she could see two pairs of eyes gazing out at her.
Andarel then swung off Icefire’s back and moved towards the bush. The eyes were frozen in terror. When he reached the bush, he parted it down the middle, revealing two petite female, yet tall creatures with wings like a dragonflies, golden hair and blue eyes.
Andarel stepped back to allow the fairies to climb out of the bush. When they stepped out, they bowed their heads and looked at the ground. The shorter one on the left was the one to speak first. “We didn’t mean to spy on you. We heard you say that you were going to Fairyia, so we didn’t think it would hurt to follow,†she said, not looking up.
“It’s okay. Now tell us your names,†Andarel said kindly.
“I’m Nataliee,†the first fairy said.
“And I’m Elany,†the other fairy announced proudly, looking up.
“Are you going to Fairyia?†Arvee asked, whispering in amazement.
Chapter 4
“Yes we are going to Fairyia. Would you like us to accompany you to our home? We would be willing to take you the secret way, the faster way,†Esther said whilst looking at them begging.
“Of course we would love you to come with us, and we would be honoured if you took us on the secret way,†Andarel and answered.
