I couldn't believe it either! ":( Apparently stupid Fox are claiming that they paid for 13 episodes already, because of the original pilot which was scrapped, so they're refusing to buy the rights to air the final episode. [act]shakes fist at Fox[/act] It was mentioned in that wiki page about the Dollhouse episodes. :(
And who, may I ask, caused the original pilot to be axed? Huh? Who was that, FOX? Was that you, FOX?

Well, Joss claimed that he decided to scrap the original pilot because it wasn't working, but I'm still convinced that he was just getting in ahead before Fox could make him change it. [act]is also grumpy at Fox[/act] Besides, I can't see how it could have been worse that the pilot they replaced it with! |:|
OMG this totally sucks... whyyyy... it was getting so good! Why are the really good shows always axed, and we get left with so many stupid fluff shows... ARGH!
Tell me 9-12 will be aired...!! Or I will be even more upset
Unykorn, I've checked out The Guild before, it's amusing, a little silly and corny. I heard there was a second season? They only go for like 10-15 min, so worth checking out I guess.
I still can't believe they're gonna axe it! x_X

But they would be a hit like Buffy if they, and this is a radical idea, aired them!
Glad to hear they're not cancelling it, even if they are randomnly deciding not to air some episodes ::)
The reason why he's working with Fox for Dollhouse is that Fox have Eliza Dushku's contract. She can't do a show with any other network. :( It's awful. I've just rediscovered Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (I gave it up midway through the third season due to annoyance with the Riley storyline) and I'm so annoyed that it's been cancelled. The series finished on such a cliffhanger, just when it was beginning to explore some interesting things, themewise, plotwise and characterwlse. Gah! Fox!
Heh, you're so right Unykorn!!

Yay for this week's episode
Ooo, a bit of a murder mystery 'who dunnit' and, an exploration into the idea of eternal life.
It had me guessing til the end, though my inklings were leaning towards the son! Or the husband... or the brother, ah heck, maybe even the daughter.
And you can never rule out the butler...
Topher - aww the poor guy! Though :P I did get a kick out of him running around with Sierra. Why is it as we grow older we seem to grow further apart from people/become isolated?
Paul x Millie - :'( I feel so sorry for the guy! And Millie, wow, didn't she get a sucky character - she's practically the partner that everyone dreams about: 'Oh, I know you might not love me that much but heck, I'm here for your sole happiness'
I'm most not impressed with Fox's crappy screwing us around with shows. But for now I shall be content that at least getting SOMETHING. :-/
I just watched ep 10 too
Poor Paul!! And wow, November sure has been arrested a few times :P
Topher! I just wanted to hug him! All he gets for his birthday is to program someone he knows is just programmed that way to hang out with! it's probably a great night and everything, Sierra's the perfect mate, but it would be so sad when you put her back in her doll state. He needs a friend :(
These kind of episodes always make me never want to come back from the dead. There's just no fun in talking to people who don't know you're you. The poor daughter though, she's sitting there thinking some total stranger was liked by her mother more than she was, but it's actually her mother!
This week's episode I don't think was as great as the last couple, but it was still pretty good.
I just watched episode 10. This could have really been a stand alone episode, no? Still can't believe we only got maybe a couple more episodes before they axe it. When will the DVD come out with the 13th episode?
My thoughts on episode 10:
When I saw this episode was written by Jane Espensen, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon, I knew that it would be a good one, and luckily I wasn't disappointed. I love how each week more and more of the horrifying potential of the Dollhouse is revealed.
It reminded me a bit of the Buffy episode 'Lie To Me': 'Today we're going to fulfill the two things every American teenager should do: die young, and stay pretty'.
Aside from the rather cipher-like Dolls, there are no characters with uncompromised morals at this point. Topher is heartbreaking, but what he's doing is completely unethical. And Ballard's just tipped over into the morally grey area, proving, rather heavy-handedly, that ordinary people, given the chance, will be drawn to whatever the Dollhouse offers.
I can't wait for next week.
That's true, Unykorn, although it's a fairly utilitarian kind of morality.
The horror of what Ballard had to do was compounded, in my opinion, by the fact that he was absolutely outraged at what he'd have to do. He was chasing after the Dollhouse to try to make them stop doing things to people without those people's consent. Now, in order to continue tracking down the Dollhouse, he has to continue to sleep with Mellie without her consent, and the more horrifying thing is that she thinks that she's consenting. It's a case of 'He who fights too long against dragons becomes a dragon himself: and if thou gaze too long into the abyss, the abyss will gaze into thee'.
The morality of Dollhouse is utterly grey, and part of the reason why its metaphor works so well is because there's the hidden implication that if we - ordinary people - were offered the chance to make use of what the Dollhouse offers, we'd probably accept.
Another great episode :)
Very interesting discussion about the grey area + morality of the characters.
It was making me think that - well, is it wrong that we like these characters? Topher's birthday with Sierra was fantastic, and so sad - the guy is so lonely. But yes, his career choice isn't exactly ethical. I can overlook that because I'm what - desensitised to the day-to-day going ons? Are they saying that we can...not forgive, I suppose, but ignore any bad situation if it becomes routine or if we're distracted well enough?
And Adelle, bringing back her friend this week - I mean, what's with the employees starting to use the Dolls for whatever they want? I know the Dollhouse is in a bit of lockdown, but shouldn't that mean they get a rest?
This week's Echo imprint of Margaret, plus Topher's Night Off, got me thinking more and more that the employees of the Dollhouse are sort of dolls themselves. Think about it - you could pull someone's memories into the machine, enhance the good bits, take out the bad bits (such as the need for a life outside of work, or ramp up their intelligence or problem solving abilities, or give them a knowledge of kung fu that they never had :P ) and put it back in the same host. Perfect employees, who don't feel all that bad about what they're doing. Very scary.
As for the Ballard/Mellie situation - that's going to end in tears. It's so unfair. Why are they still keeping him under surveillance with November? So she can kill him at a word? The Ballard-is-Alpha theory is a good enough reason in my mind. Perhaps "the attic" means that they...imprint you permanently with another set of memories, and release you? Hmm...okay...doubtful :-/
So - that was Ep 10? Only 2 to go :'(
Your thoughts on Ballard as Alpha are intriguing, Min, but I'm still not convinced. And I'm thinking we're not going to find out before the end of the season. Let's hope it gets renewed so that we can start to find out the answers to all those pesky little secrets that the series has offered up so far!
On an only slightly related note, last night at rovers (18-26 year old scouts) we had a show and tell night. One of the guys decided to give us all a run down of all 7 seasons of Buffy. Everyone got a whole lot more interested when it was pointed out that Faith was Echo was Eliza Dushu :P
Hi, dollhouse sounds great - where can I get the episodes from please? I tried iTunes, but thats the only one I know. Where are you downloading from?

Episode 11
So I guess...
We were all wrong about Alpha! It's the actor that played Wash from Firefly! He is the best... wonder what his relationship with Echo is. I'm still wondering why Alpha would go to such lengths to get Echo out. I am more than positive he would be able to going into Dollhouse easy without Ballard. And then why did Alpha send that guy from the earlier episode to kill Echo (that episode with the guy who was hunting her down)?
Topher continues to surprise me I think. Sending Echo out on his own mission to help that girl, Susan. It's really nice of him. Perhaps he thinks it helps to balance him?
So are we getting episode 13? And will we get another season?
Fox and Whedon shows never seem to work out... Joss is so under appreciated!
