Guess what? Today I was in Dymocks and they're selling TSK! 4 days early!
Of course, I'd buy it from Kmart or Big W where it's all cheapified, but still.
Yeah, DM
Was anyone else unsuprised to find Malik betrayed EVERYONE? And how stupid was Vos!

They were selling it today at my local angus and robertson... even tho i already have my copy i proceeded to pet a couple of the books... the shop lady looked at me funny... my friends just laughed
And im up to page 700 so far... should be finished tomorrow or the next day i presume
Maybe I should just bookshop hop and read the pages I'm missing... 50 pages won't take me long, and if I spread myself around the different stores no one should complain :P
lol cat eyes, if someone comes up just be like "i'm just waiting for my mother" or something :)
ive been reading solidly since about 2pm except for dinner and im about 660 pages in.......
Im loving the biohazard chamber, and Elspeth encounter with the toilet was hilarious lol...... Its very interesting how its panning out although im missing Gahltha and Dragon..... and Rushton/Elspeth mushyness :P

I'm going to post quickly on here (while I run off and learn how to do the spoiler hiding stuff for this forum - I know I know, annoying newbie, but you'll get used to me around here I promise), since I've just finished and..
I can't believe no ones mentioned the very pretty picture on the back inside cover! (The Sending cover anyone? It was a very welcome surprise for me! Especially since it just cements that it won't be long now til the Sending, YAY) oh right, there's a discussion about it, okie dokie! Thanks Lioness :)
Anyway, I'll be back in a moment to have my OMIGOSH moment :)
Okie dokie, now that Lioness has been kind enough to show me the light..
OOOOOMIGOSH!! That was so so so much better than I had anticipated (and admittedly I had anticipated it to be huuuugely awesome - wow I sound like a fangirl, sorry lol). I'd been speculating (and checking out some threads over here) for ages and still she went so far beyond my expectations. Wow. I didn't see any of that coming!
One slight complaint - I loved the length, really I did, but OW my wrist hurts from trying to hold it upright! and my back... hehe.. I'll forgive IC for the seeming confusion in parts too, because it must be awful to try and edit a 1000 page novel. Still, I kinda expected more considering she had extra time.. but no matter, it didn't change the flow of the novel at all
Matthew - it really isn't looking good for him not being the Destroyer, now is it? Personally I had never liked the theory, but its been gnawing away at me as I re-read the series and yup.. the evidence is definitely stacked in his favour. I completely agree with what people seem to think here, that Ariel = giant evil protagonist, but ultimately v. possibly not the Destroyer.. which is interesting. Though I have to wonder... with the Destroyer, although we know he wouldn't be deliberately setting out to destroy things, can't you imagine Elspeth sending anyone back if she realised they were following her on her secret quest and not supposed to be there? I mean, if she noticed Matthew around I can't help but think she would send him back immmeeediately.
Truly I think there's something that doesn't add up in all of this.. I really can't imagine Elspeth ever allowing anyone who wasn't specifically part of her quest to come with her to the Sentinel...
O.o so what if the one of Kasanda blood is unwittingly also the Destroyer? That would be interesting
Domick - NOOOOO! I sobbed. I have never ever sobbed in an IC book before, but her style has changed (yeah, I think it has), matured in a way (maybe because this book has been coming for sooo long) and it made it all so much more real (maybe I was reading more in depth than I normally do too). it seemed so unfair. He was never one of my favourite characters (I always thought him kinda cold, distant) but it was so so not fair. He didn't get to see Kella again (I was praying she would come at the last minute to say goodbye, I really was), or Obernewtyn, or.. it was horrifying. The poor man.
*giggles* I loved the basketball court underneath the Beforetime ruins, and how Elspeth was utterly confused at it and the showers (hehehehe and the bathroom. *laughs*).. that and the laptop really brought it back to reality (I love the underlying theme of protecting the Earth, I really do)
Ugh. I don't know that I can wait a year for the Sending. You know what I would love? A surprise release date and it being released in like 3 months. That would be brilliant. Its not going to happen, but I can dream.
OOhh loved the Ruston/Elf stuff. I've always been a big fan of theirs, even knowing sometimes that Dameon was the better man (Sometimes! But I want him to find a perfect girl of his own).. the ending, the healing. Ahh it made me so so happy. Sad to think she has to leave him though (then again, if he IS of Kasanda blood then he can go with.. but I honestly doubt that, as lovely as it would be.. well, if my theory is right, then it could only be bad)
Gilbert.. bugged me. I liked Kevrik. The Shadows were crazed psychos who were clearly created unknowingly that way by the Herders (scary, nature versus nurture idea lol).. totally intrigued by the maps.. not sure about this theory about Jakoby's sister as evil Salamander... it COULD work, but something makes me wonder that it isn't a random Sadorian that we haven't met before only briefly..
Loooved the integration of things we take as everyday, I really did. The laptop toootally freaked me out lol! Couldn't believe the cover was from the very very end of the book..
Dragon.. no one seemed particularly worried she had disappeared, and I remember Elspeth saying Maryon had foretold she would leave Sutrium with Dragon... so I wonder whether that means Dragon will turn up sometime or.. hmm. She's clearly around somewhere lol
Okay, I think I'm done. Sorry about the super long post but my mind is just full of TSK. I literally nearly screamed when I saw it on the shelves 5 days early.
I got it yesterday and finished it just this morning! I tried to finish it last night but I got book at like 9:00PM and I couldn't last the whole night... it was pretty hilarious b/c when I fell asleep I kept having weird dreams about the OC and how the book would end up (this shows just how obsessed I am)
I like to say a few things... Isobelle I love you to death! I cannot believe how good this book was. I expected something wonderful but this was just EPIC.
Elf not only had to take down Malik (Did he die when his mind collapsed due to the coercion attempt? If he is... *happy dance*... *cough* sorry death is something to be happy about). She went to Herder Isle and took that down as well. When she and Kevrik were invading Vos's place, I was pretty much humming the Mission Impossible song.
The Domick Revelation blew my mind. I was reading the book at the dinner table (even though my parents tried to stop me) and my jaw actually dropped when it was revealed who was the null. It was a spectacular, dark and tragic twist. His death was terrible but I loved Elf trying to comfort him by telling him about Obernewtyn. I just wished we got a final Kella/Domick scene. The Mika/Domick thing was disturbing but done so well.
Is it just me but Ariel now seems the ultimate badass? To me in the previous four books, Ariel did't seem that bad a villain. He was nasty but wasn't all out bad. But now we found out what he did to both Domic and Rushton made him seem to be the most terrifying villain ever. Much more terrifying than dodgey old Voldemort who was more a 'I have power fear me or I'll kill you' villain but Ariel is more subtle and vicious. I cannot wait for the confrontation between Ariel and Elf in the Sneding (I love the cover btw)
The Rushton/Elf a.k.a. RELF (Support Relf ppls! You cannot deny they love each now! Ha! Take that Dameon/Elf fans!) stuff was amazing.
At the beginning I was exasperated by Rushton's attitude and wanted to take a lead pipe to his head until Domick/Mika revealed what happened. Then was I just horrified and scared there was no Relf in this book.
But the Ariel's house scene was one of the best sequences in the whole OC series so far. And Elf bringing him back was just... *sighs*. Then we got to Sador and we got some Relf fluff we've all been waiting for since the end of Ashling... I was hoping for the stone thing as well but *shrugs* we can't get everything. The bear mind scene was spectacular but this whole 'price' thing is making me wary. Who's going to pay it and how?
And the Signs thing. The Stonehill thing was slightly disappointing b/c of the lack of Elf's reaction to it. I mean come on! You've just found one of the signs and we got no reaction!!!!! WHAT!!! (unless it isn't one of the Signs). But the Sador sign was awesome. Lol! Maruman/Mermymen (spl?) had to sing!
As for the Salamander thing... when it was mentioned he had yellow eyes my mind immediately leapt to Alexis (he had yellow eyes didn't he?) and Salamander's woman I'd imagine as Erin. This whole Salamander as a Sadorian/Gadfian thing is confusing and I'm not too sure about it (perhaps it's a skin dye or something?). Well I guess all will be revealed in the 6th book
Okay I'm going a rant now but man, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! BRING ON THE SNEDING!!!

That above keyboard mashing was actually part of my amusement/excitement, because I can just see a manga-style picture of Ariel in an ill-fitting dress, looking caught out in front of a mirror with clip-on earrings, attempting to put lipstick on. And I know just who to ask to draw it XD I wonder if she would
And also, RE: Destroyer...
I know the evidence is pointing overwhelmingly to Matthew, but did anyone else feel that after all this time of being so secretive about the Destroyer's identity, that dream was blaringly obvious? Perhaps it is a red herring... I'm still sticking with Matthew or Daffyd for Destroyer, though ;)
Oh something that just bugged me slightly...
THe whole demon-band thing... and Elf being terrified she couldn't get past it. Hello! in TKP, she used her killing powers and realised it sheared right through it. JUST USE IT ALREADY! It really bugged me in Saithwold that she could've gotten away a few times by using her killing power to disable the band but at least in the end it turned out alright
LOL! Ariel as a Drag Queen. I imagining a really weird Priscilla Queen of the Desert thing in Sador taking place.

OK, I'm a third of theay through and have to say that I am a little disappointed with all the mistakes. Kuriah (sp?) didn't go to noviney before the rebellion. etc. that said, I am loving the book. it is exciting and moving and makes me feel all kinds of emotions which I think is great. i agree that the writing is much more mature than the others but i expected it to be as IC grows and changes so will her work.
I thought that IC had said in one of the interviews that Ariel, Matthew and several others were NOT the destroyer and also that the destroyer is in the first book, we'll have to wait and see i guess.
loving it!
Deb, you need to put a [/spoiler] tag at the end too, can someone fix it please?
Sooooo......just finished it this morning, have had it for under 24 hours lol... i think i spent around 10 hours reading? lol....
Wow.... that was soooo good!!!!! Hmmm where to start.....
Yay for Rushton Elf mush :D im not a R/E fanatical fan lol but yay she finally got to ravish him lol!!! And the suspense when she was trying to tell him that she loved him when he was in that ravage bear headspace im like nooooo he has to be saved.....
And yes, i was one of those people who thought possible Ariel would find a way to be even vaguely redeemed, but no way in hell now.....
Bruna/Dardelan..... nawwww yayayayya!!!!!!!!
I loved Rawen, she was such a nice horse :)
I still dont think Matthew is the Destroyer, even though evidence supports him being it. I just.... yeah...
the Shadows on Herder Isle.... wow..... it shows their torment though i spose but just....*blinks*
Sometimes it seemed a little too convinent someone was there to help Elspeth, but you know, our Heroine cant do it all by herself lol :)
And i was very suprised by working computers and the disk and amethysts being the energy.
Thats all for now, atleast while my brain is accepting the maganitude of the fact that i have been waiting for so long for this book and ive already finished it lol.....
On the same topic
I thought it depended on how strong the taint was. The one around her throat was very strong, and a lot of the ones she encountered in this book where stronger than in TKP - weren't they? The Herders having gotten better at making them, and besides, they weren't the ones wearing them (evil Herders)

Hmm, I'm trying to remember when in TKP she got through a demon band, was it the guy on the horse just before they went down the steep incline into the white valley?
If it was
That would explain why she wouldn't use it this time, it would completely exhaust her as it did that time. Especially with this one being a very strong taint, she'd probably pass out from the effort. Which wouldn't really help.

Hay I wonder if the sword is meant to be given to Dragon.... ?? Maybe something to do with the graves her mother took her too as a wee girl.
*puts her head back down into reading it the second time....*
Ame - That's sounds totally possible, especially if the sword is "The Stone Key" of which the title speaks (i.e. it opens a tomb or something which allows Elf access to the rest of the signs, but it doesn't belong to her)
Re Demonband: Oh yeah, she did faint in TKP. My bad, it makes so much sense now *slaps head*. I love the Saithwold events b/c it proves one thing: Elf is a one woman army, get out of her way or get trampled... by horses
Re: Sword/Stone Key, when i first read it I thought it was perhaps the sceptre that Dragon had to bring to The Red Land/TLotRQ in order to identify herself as the Queen. But now that I've thought about it, I have no idea what the sword is going to do. ARGH! Ideas anyone?

still not finished........................
is it possible that salamander is a gypsy? Orys says he can tell if people are lying and as far as i know that is a gypsy trait. the sadorians have not mentioned that they have that ability.
