Ive read most of Tamoras books except the protector of the small and Will Of the Empress
But i only own 2! I used to have some of the circle books but gave them to a friend who was collecting them.. then i started on ebay to get the others!
Ok, after reading SotL, what should I read now? I want to read MORE!!!
Well if you want chronological order i'd start on the Immortals Quartet, followed by Protector of the Small, Trickster and then Beka Cooper...but its not particularly necessary to read them in that order, there are references to the events of others and other characters are introduced, but basically each series focuses on a different girl -Immortals is Daine, Protector of the Small is Kel who trains to be a knight, Trickster is Ally (Alanna's Daughter), and Beka Cooper goes back a couple of generations but the series isn't finished yet so i wouldn't start with this one and thus technically chronologically would go before SotL but anyway, it's probably my least favourite...
glad to see you loved SotL! ;D

Really? You didn't like Bekka Cooper? I thought she was awesome! Although if you're a big fan of Tamora's earlier books, I guess I can understand since Terrier is very different than any of her other writing. The first-person narrative, for one thing. But I thought it was kind of a nice change.
My favorite books are still probably Dane's, though. :D
I own the SofL, PotS, Trickster...my friend has a few others that we 'share'...she doesn't have a choice in the matter :p
I didn't really like the Series with Briar and co..they were okay, but I just couldn't really get that into them as I could with Lioness and Kel etc.
I liked Bekka Cooper, although it is rather different to her other stuff. I can't wait for the next lot! She has to get together with that guy! lol, i have the feeling I've got re-read terrier....can't even remember names, sigh.
i almost didn't read bekka cooper after picking it up in a bookshop- the first part which was illiterate and in hard-to-understand font nearly got me- i couldn't stand that first part- in the end i didn't buy it but read it off a friend at the beginning of the year...i liked it the more i got into it though- it just took me a while to get used to the first person narrative- and all the slang that was used...i'd say its probably my least liked tortall book but it was good in the end :)
i have to agree with you on that one, izzy - to me, Beka Cooper just didn't have the same feel as the Tortall books, and i found i didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the others. its still a good book, but in comparison, i rather read the others :P
I haven't read TP's books in ages. It was definitely a good phase for me. I made it half way through the Protector of the Quartet, then sort of wondered off. I must say, I was only interested in POTQ because I practiced the same weaponry as Keladry used. It shocked me that quite an internationally 'unknown' martial art happened to feature in a book I was reading right at that time.
As much as I liked TP's work, I'm sort of ruined from reading Feist's 'Magician' and anything that has 'David Eddings' printed on the book  . Their collective concepts of power/magic are so intellectually stimulating. It makes a lot of other story based on magic a bit 'pastel'.
But, TP's coverage of female rights, equity, personal growth themes have merit in their own right. I found the sword fight between Alanna and the 'Dragon' particularly memorable. Snaking the sword up the arm to rest at the jugular is certainly an unusual yet oh so novel move.

I'm re reading the MAgic Circle books at the moment and enjoying them. I'm up to the last of the Circle Opens quartet then I will read the Will of the Empress. I really like the Tris character and wish I had her powers sometimes when I get really annoyed. :P

I don't suppose anyone has Immortals book 1 going spare?
I ordered all 4 books from amazon marketplace sellers. I ordered books 2-4 with a seller I had never used but they seemed good and they were a really good price. I couldn't get book 1 with them so I ordered it with another seller I had used before that is really reputable. Anyways I waited ages and books 2-3 arrived in good condition and in relatively good time (though with another set of covers to what I was expecting) but book 1 never turned up. So I had to cancel my order as it seems now that they don't have the book and I have the later books in the series sat taunting me as I can't read them. The only sellers now selling on amazon are either dodgy looking or expensive... so now what should I do???
In the meantime I am re-reading SOTL to try and distract myself but they don't last very long and I wanted to wait til after Immortals to re-read POTS and the Trickster series...

Well, they all arrived and I've now re-read all the Alannas followed by the Immortals and then Protector of the Small. Only Tricksters left before I have to consider finding new stuff to read. I loved the Immortals but was a little annoyed by an ending that felt a bit abrupt. I am also now hopelessly a fangirl of Numair and dream of being able to turn into animals.
i also am a hopeless fangirl of numair!!

I just started re-reading the Protector of the Small again. I've finished the rest, then will go onto the Tricksters and Bekka Cooper. that should get my TP obsession out of the way for another year.
I've only read the Trickster and Beka Cooper books. I must say, I get really confused when I think of Tamora Pierce because I have no idea where to begin. I like how she weaved other characters from different books in her stories, but sometimes It juts get's really annoying because I don't understand.

I bought the Immortals Quartet yonkers ago. For some reason I bought the fourth book first, never read it, bought the first one, realised it was from the same series and thought "Whacko!" Anyway, apart from those four, the only other TP books I own are the two Trickster books (I bought those when I was in New Zealand for a holiday and I was stuck in a campervan. I ran out of books so fast, and I could hardly find any in the New Zealand bookshops! I'll admit I was kind of off road - well, as off road as a campervan can get...), and volumes three and four of the Circle of Magic Quartet.
That was years ago, but recently I've had the urge to read shorter books again. I work in an Angus and Robertson franchise, and we didn't have any in stock! I didn't want to order any there because I already have three Little Fur books on order. I went over to our other small bookshop and bought them out of their Tamora Pierce stockpile. It was a stockpile of only three books. They were volumes one, three and four of the Circle Opens Quartet.
The point is (my English teacher always told me I babbled too much) should I just read these new Tamora Pierce books that I bought? Obviously I'd wait until volume two had arrived in the other bookshop before going onto three and four. But I do intend to own all her books one day, so should I just put these aside and get some others to start with? What's the best way to experience TP?
You have to read the Song of the Lioness Quartet, Kaede - theyre her best :D
I have to say, I really prefer her Tortall books to the Circle novels - they just don't capture me at all like the other ones.
Anyway, in answer to your question, the best way to experience TP would be to read the SotL - warning: terribly addictive ;D
