Thought you might be interested to know I saw posters for the movie up at one of the bus stops at uni today, and at the station in the city!
Whoa, I was just in this thread and read BB's post. Then I closed the Obernet tab I had opened, and the very next second an ad for this movie started playing on the TV! The universe likes it :P
lol cat-eyes! And BB - I am seeing posters and ads for it everywhere all of a sudden too! They're making me uber excited!!
Yep... our youth magazine had ads advertising the movie and have you noticed that all of the books have new covers. SO much for having the latest covers now I want the movie book covers. Apparently according to Birch Carroll and Coyle's site the movie is rated M. Which is good because I didn't want it to be PG rated because then there would be lots less violent scenes.
ONE MORE DAY TILL THE MOVIE HITS CINEMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANYONE EXICTED????????????? OR IS IT JUST ME....
I'll stop using cap locks now lol.... If you go onto Itunes there's a Tomorrow single and apparaently there is no soundtrack for the movie. Music stores should be stocking the Tomorrow single by the end of the week (I think I read that somewher!).
I can't wait to see it!!!
I have to see it tomorrow or wait until my friend who i promised to go with gets back from a weekend away in melbourne... I dont wanna wait!
A friend of mine went to see it and gave it a 7.5 out of 10, so sounding good! (That was his facebook status update, I know nothing more unfortunately)
I went to see it today and I really loved it~
Sounds promising. I'm seeing it on Saturday. :)

So! Reactions. I went with very, very low expectation. From the trailer I thought a lot of the dialogue sounded stilted - either from the script or the actors - and that the whole thing seemed a bit too glossy. To my surprise and delight I actually really liked it, really got into it. I haven’t read the book in over ten years, so a lot of it is fuzzy, and I couldn’t pick which details were changed.
I thought Ellie wasn't bad, though, her Big Important Speeches around the camp fire were kind of cringe worthy. Homer and Robin were brilliant (I have so much love for them), and Corrie and Kevin weren't bad. I wasn't so sure about Fi - they made her into a bit of a caricature of herself - but she perhaps had the fewest lines of all of them, and with two characters out of the way might gain more depth in the next movie. The only aspect of Chris' character they kept was the pot smoking reclusive part, which was a shame. He seems to have morphed from a sensitive, poetic, dysfunctional dreamer to the comic relief.
I thought the action scenes were very good – well paced – and they combined explosions with dialogue, which was good. I liked how clueless the kids are, how they make mistakes, screw up and have to cope with their own traumatic responses. This is all in the book, of course, but I wasn’t sure how much of it would come out in the movie.
Hell – and the scenery in general was brilliant, and beautiful. Typical Australian mountains that aren’t really mountains at all. The movie may not have quite as much of a sense of place as the book, - lacking as it did Ellie’s reflections, interpretations and memories – but it did pretty well.
As we expected the invaders were anonymous Asians. A pity, and it’s probably too much to hope that people can watch the movies and not come to some conclusion about who they are. I did like the moment where Ellie looks at the painting of Australia’s settlement and sees it as an invasion.
Looking forward to hearing other responses soon!
ETA - sorry for the initial lack of spoiler tags. I figured as we all knew the plot (not that I spoiled it) they weren't necessary. Of course people don't want to read others' impressions before making their own.

Could we perhaps use spoiler tags for a few days guys? I know only a very small amount of people have seen this yet...and while we may have read the book, we don't want the awesome movie adaption spoiled! Thanks :D
@Lol, I agree about chris, he was so much worse in the movie than the book. He hardly seemed to be creative at all, just a massive stoner.
I agree about the really pretty aussie landscapes!!
I'm so epically jealous of you all [act]sobs[/act] I haven't worked out if its coming over here to the UK yet. I saw a poster for it in the cinemas when I was home in Aus, and I've seen the trailer once at my sister's insistance. It looks good. I want to see it. now. :(
TMWTWB is this month's OBC book, but since this thread is quite active and established we're going to use this thread to continue discussions rather than open up a new thread and make things confusing :P
However, as not everyone will be seeing the movie at the same time, please continue to use spoiler tags for movie discussion :)
Happy reading/movie watching!

YAY!!!!!!!!!! TWTWB is this month's book. :) One that I've read and love. (L) Good choice. I'll have to read the first book again. I'm watching the movie tomorrow and will give you my view on how good I think the movie is. :)

Ok, I went into this movie with lowish expectations.. Thought it would be extremely corny but this movie was AMAZING! And it is the only good Australian movie I have ever seen.
There were some things I didn't like, but I just looked past them..
*Chris: they just made him out to be a massive stoner. Was he in the books? It's been years since I read them lol.
*Ellie's occasional accent, especially towards the end of the movie.
And there are probs more but I can't think of them lol.
I loved the scenery, it was beautiful. I don't think I've ever said that about a movie before.. I liked the action and such, I thought they would make it more PG but it was great! Umm, I was surprised by Caitlin's acting.. I thought it would suck but it wasn't that bad. Most of the corny lines came from her. I didn't really like Corrie.. Maybe because I imagined her very differently. I imagined Homer differently as well, less wild.. I didn't like when he first walked out of the policestation, I remember thinking "seriously?"
There were a lot of cringeworthy/facepalm parts like when they were all sitting in the house before it blew up working out what they were going to do.. And they had so many lights on... And then when Corriet turned the walkietalkie off.
Maybe because I wasn't expecting much from it I loved it so much.. Will definitely be seeing it again, this movie is just wow. :)
^ agreeed soo good. I want to see it again everytime I read something about it or talk about it~
I don't think chris was a massive stoner in the book, I think it was just implied that he had taken drugs, I don't remember him actually using them in the books.
@Kelda, I remember it because in book three i think it is elle goes to pull weeds out of Chris' grave, and thinks to herself that he liked weeds and stopped pulling them and walked away smiling.
I was one of the first to see it my town as it came out on the second and the first screening was at 2, my and my mates were so pumped we wagged creative drawing and went and saw it, i like Sippy, went in expecting it to suck majorly.
some of the scenes were different, no Robin finding the note from her dad in the fax machine, no dumping the car in Chris' damn, they were the ones i noticed.
I actually loved Chris being the comedic relief and when Ellie was going to shoot him for falling asleep on the watch i laughed so much i almost cried :D
My english teacher asked me if it was too "war-ey" or too "coming of age" and i found that it was neither and both, but not an annoying 'this movie must be directed by Micheal Bay (too many explosions)' or i could swear this is meant to have guns in it' type thing.
all in all, I'm going to see it again, and then many times after that. I loved it, end of story :-"
^ I didn't mean that he hadn't taken them, just not in the course of the book while ellie and the others are with him. I didn't find him all that funny, but it didn't really bother me either.
I also noticed there was no fax, but they couldn't really put that in, since the phone lines weren't working and the net server was down, maybe it made it seem more likely that he wouldn't have been able to.
I also liked that they managed to update it a bit, putting in some new technology and stuff, without going overboard.
I think I am also def gonna go and see it again~
I watched today and loved it. I went into the movie with high expectations and mostly was pleased.
Firstly, I'll start with the positives. :) There are a lot of them!!! The scenery was Beautiful. I'm assuming it was the Blue Mountains. I loved the explosions and the action. It was soo well crafted. I'd have to say that for my liking there could have being another action scene. The way the movie ended, I liked because it meant they have to create a sequel to answer all of the questions like what happens to Corrie. Mind you I already now that because i've read and own all of the novels. My favourite part was probably the bridge explosion but I can't believe Fi turned off the walkie-talkie. What was she thinking??? Let's just have a chat session for Ellie even though there were soliders all around. But, that was probably my main concern. Overall all, I reckon, for an Australian Film it was brilliant. I wished the movie was a bit longer though. The characters were also a bit different from what I expected some of them to be. I loved Homer. He was probably my favourite. After having low expectations of Catlin Stacey's acting I was actually surprised of how good she played her part as Ellie.
I also think I am going to see it again in the cinemas if I can. And... I'm definately going to get it when it comes out on DVD.
I'm hoping to see the movie this week some time! I was hoping today, but ran out of time. So possibly Monday.
I've started rereading the book - it's been many years since I've read it. And I don't think I actually finished the series. I think I actually started book 3 or 4 but then it didn't grip me as the first two did.
Rereading it, I am instantly caught up in Ellie's world and it feels like I'm feeling what she's feeling. It really is a captivating book!
