Ooh I really want to read Uprooted, but so many books I own which I haven't read yet...
trying to decide whether to read Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth, or The Shepherd's Crown by Terry Pratchett...I think I have been putting off The Shepherd's Crown just because it makes me sad to think its his last book

I've just finished Wolfskin by Juliet Marillier. It took me ages to get into. I think it wasn't until I was about 200 pages in that I finally felt compelled to keep reading. It was a good read once I was past that point, though too anxiety-provoking for me to actually be called enjoyable.
I'm now moving on to Shadowfell, also by Juliet Marillier.
Kelda, pick Bitter Greens! Then read The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth if you haven't already.
I haven't read The Wild Girl yet, because I'm trying to be good with the book reading/buying ratio (worse case scenario it wont be too far away though, am keen!)
Also I love Wolfskin, and Foxmask is really good toooooo :D I think maybe it takes less time to get into, but I might just like it that much that my opinion is void...
Just wondering, how is Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen? I'm thinking of starting it.
I enjoyed it, although it's been more than a year since I've read it so I'm a little hazy on the details. It wasn't what I expected, but it was good.

redcatblackcat, I struggled to find common ground with the main character, so I found it a difficult read.
But, that is not to say that the book wasn't good.
Does the Old Kingdom series improve as it goes on? Because to be honest I couldn't quite get into Sabriel even though I'd heard such good things about it, and I'm not sure if I should stick it out with the next few books.
Depends what you like. After a recent reread I found Sabriel was definitely the least complex of the books, and there is more characterization in the following books - exploring isolation, pressure to live up to expectations, etc etc.
So, my vote is to give them a go at some point.

The title of the next Old Kingdom book was revealed today! I don't know what to expect from it.
I have quite liked the Old Kingdom books thus far. They weren't what I expected either, but I did enjoy them.
I've finished Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier and have now moved on to Foxmask. I'm enjoying Foxmask more than Wolfskin so far, though I'm only about 100 pages in (I was a little devastated to find that a certain character from Wolfskin will be making an appearance though. Get out of my life, Somerled).

I'm very slowly working my way through Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth. I really like it so far, and I kind of knew I would, it being a fairytale retelling and all~ but uni assignments and readings and work get in the way of my free reading time so much :/

I've finally finished Foxmask by Juliet Marillier. I enjoyed it a million times more than Wolfskin. I'm not sure why I reacted so differently to the two books.
Today I finished A Tangle of Gold, the final book in Jaclyn Moriarty's Colours of Madeline series. It was absolutely magical and I adored it.
Now I'm getting into Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge, which I'm enjoying so far. It's been billed to me as a Beuaty and the Beast retelling but I'm also getting references to Bluebeard.
Currently reading Chimera the third and final (?) book in the Parasitology series by Mira Grant - so far so good
I'm about 150 pages into Illuminae as *someone* insisted I need to read it :D
I'd read some of Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff's individual work before (am actually also partway through the second book in the Lotus Wars trilogy) and enjoyed it; however, I was skeptical about the 'found footage' style of Illuminae. I'm happy to be proven wrong, and it has sucked me in, letting me read between the lines and puzzle out what is going on. It's fun.

Yes another Illuminae reader! I think a lot of us have been convinced, and with good reason.
I also just finished Illuminae too! It really was fantastic. A bit different from what I normally read. Love the way it has been set out too!
Currently reading Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb which started off as hard to get into but now I'm engrossed in the lives and stories of the characters!
I'm probably going to finish Illuminae tonight, or tomorrow since we're going out for dinner and I've just realised it's almost 4. Compulsive reading, thanks Blackbird. For any 13-18 year old Melbourne Obernetters, Wyndham libraries is having Amy Kaufman in for an author talk as part of their 'Loud in the Library' youth event next Friday.
After Illuminae, I shall return to 'How to be a Heroine' by Samantha Ellis, where the author takes another look at the female literary characters that shaped her, growing up. It's fascinating, and is also making my to-be-read pile miles longer.
Aaaah Illuminae. I love that book! Also Lotus War and the collab Amie did with Meagan Spooner.
I'm currently reading Truthwitch by Susan Dennard and re-reading book two of the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I've been re-reading the series in preparation for the release of the final book this week since I finally got the shipping notification from the Book Dep.
