  I just finished season two....and i was like 8-| hardcore last few episodes :P Most of the time I was o_O wow....touching too ;D on to season 3..... Lee is so cute when he's jealous of Elie (is that how you spell it).....

  I haven't seen Paprika, though I think I heard somewhere that it's like an adult version of Spirited Away. I find that hard to imagine. Is it true?
  
  About the FMA movie, I remember that there was something that I was trying to figure out the whole movie. Something to do with a character on the Earth-like earth, and who their corresponding character was in Ed and Al's world. But I now have no idea what I was wondering! It's so frustrating! It was the last movie I watched with my boyfriend at the time, and he said he'd burn it for me, then he dumped me. Damn it, I wanted that movie, especially now! Alas, it is so expensive.
  
  I remember being upset that Ed didn't end up in the same world as Winry...

  I finished the dubbed version a few days ago. AWESOME! but the Jap version was better (which I watched right after). I'm going to find the movies now....

  I've seen both Blood+: The Last Vampire and Vampire Hunter D. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed :(. I adore the anime version of Blood+ and I thought that was much better than the movie. I didn't like Saya at all in the movie version, and to my horror there was no sign of Haji, my favourite cello-playing chiropteran. :P But this could be taste thing. I tend to like my anime to be [act]*ponders, trying to find the right word*[/act] beautiful and elegant. Blood+ just didn't quite do it for me. Though I know it has a lot of fans. I would recommend the anime though, that was fantastic.
  
  Vampire Hunter D was not entirely what I expected. It did have a certain charm. The main problem was I was in a terrible mood when I watched it, so I probably didn't really evaluate it fairly. I'm not convinced it was worth the amount I paid for it on DVD before I watched it though...

  I couldn't find a thread discussing anime series, so I'll just use this one. :) I'm in the middle of watching Blood+ (the series, not the movie) and it's brilliant! I am completely addicted to it. The way I'm going, I'll use up all my download for this month just watching all the episodes. :P There is something very addictive about this anime. I adore Haji. ^_^ I love it when he plays the cello! [act]sigh[/act] Plus he has awesome fighting skills. The way he just drops down from roofs all the time and starts fighting using his cello case as a shield/weapon... I can't imagine the movie without him (he's my favourite character).
  
  Edit: Plus the music is great. I love the song that Haji keeps playing - what's that called? It's so sad/beautiful, I love it! And a lot of the other music is so beautiful. I think that style really suits the series. I'd love to find the soundtrack.
  
  Kaede - I don't think that Paprika is an adult version of Spirited Away. I haven't seen it, but I looked it up and the story-line sounds quite different (and way more complex). I got lost just reading the summary. It sounds really good though. and really interesting! Although perhaps a little too disturbing for my liking. (You know it's rated R? I find it hard to think what could be so disturbing about an animation that it has to be rated R). But anyway, it's supposed to be really good.

  I watched the dubbed version of FMA. I'm definately not going to remember the question until I watch it again, so alas, I think I'm going to have to buy it... when I actually find it.
  
  Has anyone seen Hellsing? I absolutely hated it. I got six episodes in and freaked out. Blood+ isn't anything like that is it?

  I saw it a while ago in Sanity for $50 and I just can't justify spending that much on a single movie. I'm hoping when I move in February I'll be able to find it more easily. Mind you, then I won't have a DVD player!
  
  Lol I can tell. I've just seen the entire series, though I would like to get into the manga. At the moment I'm still trying to track down the three volumes of Fruits Basket manga that I don't own, and it would feel wrong to go onto collecting another series with that unfinished. I'm a bit obsessive compulsive with things like that :P
  Is the manga much different from the anime?

  I haven't seen Hellsing, so I don't know whether Blood+ is like that. I don't find Blood+ scary, if that's what you're asking (then again, I love thrillers and scary movies, so I might be a little biased :P ). There is violence in it (as is suggested by the name), but I don't find it disturbing/freaky. Well, some of the things are a little upsetting (such as innocent people being killed/ turned into monsters), but mostly it's ok.
  I'm up to episode 14 (so when I said I was half way through, I was exaggerating a little :P ). So far, the most violent thing has been right at the opening of the series, when the main character goes a little insane and starts killing innocent people. So don't be put off by that opening, because it's not all like that. Then again, characters do die, so if you don't like that sort of thing, it's probably not for you. :)
  Gah, I don't know where I'm going with this. :P Overall, it can be a little violent, but there are good moments to balance out the bad. And it's all done very skillfully. (Plus it's only cartoon violence, so it's not as realistic.)
  Hope that's helped, but I have a feeling it will have just confused you. :P I have a talent for confusing people with my explanations.

  Kaede - I've watched both, and I'd say Blood+ probably isn't as 'scary' as Hellsing. I mean, Hellsing I think likes to go in with the horror themes, whereas Blood+ is quite a bit more stylised and 'prettier', I suppose you could say. Then again, it certainly doesn't shy away from liberal splatterings of blood. The opening scene, as Avi said, is probably one of the more violent/traumatic ones...though later it gets traumatic because characters I like start to die. :P
  
  Avi - Haji = love. I adore him. I was mesmerised from the frist second he came on screen. He's just so sweet and sexy and gorgeous. And the cello playing. Oh the cello playing. [act]*goes weak at the knees*[/act] I don't know how far you are into it now, but the way Saya treats him sometimes really annoys me. Poor abused Haji. I also LOVE Kai, but mainly because about half way through the series he starts eating sexy for breakfast and turns into one of the most awesome characters ever. He cooks. He cleans. He kill chiropterans. Is there anything that man can't do? XD
  
  I haven't seen the FF movies...I haven't even played the game. It's on my 'to do' list.

  Yeah, Haji is awesome. [act]squee[/act]
  I don't know what it is about me. :P I used to pride myself on not going all fangirly over fictional characters, and then anime/manga comes along and I'm going weak at the knees all the time. :P But I love the cello playing! And he's so sweet and awesome. Plus I tend to like the strong and silent type. He he, it's so funny when he pretends to be the gardener at that girl's school in Vietnam. And all the girls are sort of swooning over him while he spends about five minutes staring at that rose. And Saya is so shocked that they think he's cute. Stupid Saya! I get the feeling that she never really looks at Haji. After a while she just gets used to the fact that whenever she is attacked he will drop down from a nearby roof and start protecting her while she plucks up the courage to fight. She doesn't really pay much attention to him unless they're fighting.
  I suppose she sort of treats him as her 'servant' - not including him in things, etc. But then again, I can't imagine Haji relaxing on the beach or cooking on a barbecue. :P I think he prefers to sort of be in the background.
  I'm not sure about Kai yet. I guess I haven't got up to the part where he turns all sexy and awesome yet. He is really sweet and determined, and I really like him, but I like Haji better.
  And is it just me, or is Mao (his girlfriend) really annoying? I guess I should like her, because she's strong and determined and can be quite nice, etc. But there's just something about her that annoys me. (Maybe it's because she's a tad manipulative?)
  Anyway, I'm only up to episode 16, so I've got quite a while to go until the half-way mark. :P
  I'm curious about some of the baddies. I love the music that plays every time the Phantom (otherwise known as 'Carl') shows up. It's so melodramatic, I love it. :P And he strikes me as being slightly insane.
  Bec, do you know what the piece that Haji always plays is called? I really want to download it...

  Ok, I just saw "Haji" in the sidebar and had to come over here :P
  I am such an obsessed Haji fan, I have this massive folder on my computer that's just full of Haji wallpapers and fan art ;P
  Kai really grew on me, for ages I just thought it was going to be another love triangle but the whole thing turned out so much better than I had imagined. I'm really trying not to give anything away :P *fails*
  I watched the original Blood + sub a couple of years ago (Crispin Freeman does a reeeaal nice Haji dub though) and ended up spending about 8 months of 2007 checking daily on the net for DVD release dates, and to see if they'd make a second series....still waiting! :P *isn't hopeful*
  It probably works better as a shorter series, but still, when the show ended...*sigh* I think I cried for daaaays.
  
  Hellsing - Which one are we talking about? Hellsing series or Hellsing Ultimate? There's a bit of a story behind them...
  The Hellsing series was made first, supposedly based off of the manga. But after it's release the writer and illustrator of the manga didn't like it (I think it's by Kouta Hirano?...). In fact, he thought it was so cruddy that he personally got involved in making some OVA releases: Hellsing Ultimate. So they're truer to how the author intended.
  I've seen most of the series and all of the OVAs, and I've gotta say that Ultimate is a lot easier to watch. The series had some really interesting directing but I think it got a bit lost at points, especially with the dub version (I've just gotta watch both dubs and subs :P ). I think there were a few moments where you just went "Aaaah....wait, what?".

  HotD, thanks for clarifying regarding Hellsing, I was always really confused about the differences between Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate. I've only watched some of the former, but now I'll definitely have to hunt down the latter. lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to watch things both dubbed and subbed. :P
  
  YAY! More Haji fans! :D I have a similar folder. XD Have you seen that 'Haji Collection' magazine type thing? Because despite the fact I don't speak japanese, I just had to download it for the purrty Haji pictures. And the fact chibi!Haji is the CUTEST thing I have EVER seen.

  Oh, I was devastated when I finished watching it. I still haven't found a series to replace it. I need another epic, 50 episode vampire extravaganza.

  Ack, Mao. I know what you mean. I always thought I should like her but I never really did. She grew on me a little towards the end of the series though. Tehe. Karl. He's such a psycho, I have to like him.

  Gah! I'm up to episode 25 of Blood+, and I am seriously addicted. This is my new obsession. I just can't stop watching them! :P
  I actually really like Solomon. ^_^ (Although Haji is better). But the dynamic between Saya and Solomon is perfect! [act]sigh[/act] Plus he's cute. And I love baddies (although he's not actually that evil).
  Saya was such a little brat when she was little. The way she ordered Haji around all the time, she was so mean to him! I really don't know what he saw in her. I suppose she was the only person to act kindly towards him. But even after their relationship changed and they became friends, she still treated him like a servant. The way she told Haji to climb down that dangerous cliff-face just to get her some flowers was so selfish! Even now she takes him for granted. I only wish that Saya would open her eyes and look at him once in a while. :P If she doesn't want him, I'll have him! [act]grugs Haji[/act]
  Oh, and Diva is creepy! The way she's always giggling at things and saying everyone looks tasty - she is completely insane! (And evil. Very, very evil. [act]glares at Diva[/act]).

  I was devastated when it ended too, it was all I could think about for about a month. Then of course comes the mad rush to find something equally as good so the pain goes away :P I ended up substituting it with Ouran High School Host Club, which became my next massive obsession. Sadly, there's only 26 eps of that and I had to search all over again :-/

  Yeah, there is a CD with Haji's song on it. I think an album was released after the show finished, it has a few cello pieces and some backing tracks.
  Aaah, I'm such a sucker for a guy with a string instrument ;P Listening to Haji play made me want to take cello up again...and then get a titanium case made so I can fight evil do-ers after gigs :P

  Saya needed a good kick for the way she treated Haji through most of the show ::) It was like he was a pet or something, "do this, do that!", "sit Haji!". Gah!
  I suppose she's improved on when she first met him though :P *thinks "cliff" and "flower"*
  
  Was anyone else annoyed by Saya's dub voice actor? I love the way her voice changes over the series in the original Japanese version, but in English she has this really cute-sy innocent voice throughout the whole thing. There's no hardened warrior in it at all :(

  I'm fairly new to Anime. Pretty much most of what I've seen has been by Hayao Miyazaki.
  -Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky (Laputa), Kiki's Delivery Service.
  
  I have also seen (because of my younger brother) parts of something called Gundam X or similar. Its ok, but not quite my thing :P
  
  Anywho!
  I want to 'eventually' see Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro, but what does everyone suggest a newbie like me should be watching? (Any links would be appreciated also) :)

  Uh-oh, advice on anime? That's just a big ol' can of worms :P
  
  Can't go past the classics, have you ever seen Akira or Spriggan? They're your must-see early anime movies, kind of futuristic and rough.
  
  If you're into gory, samurai-ish, "wtf" anime, you can't go past Ninja Scroll or Basilisk. Seriously, you'll spend half the time thinking "woah!" or "who the hell comes up with this stuff? o_O"
  
  For shojo gender-confusing cutesie-ness until your eyes water, there's Strawberry Panic or Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. They both have a few "wtf" moments, mainly because of the weird never-in-a-million-years-would-that-happen situations :P
  
  Newer anime that you'll hear so much about you'll want to gouge your ears out are Bleach, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Deathnote. I don't think they need much explanation :P
  
  Then there's "hot chicks kicking [censored]": Ghost in the Shell, Black Lagoon, Ergo Proxy, Claymore and Elfen Lied (sort of).
  
  Just looking through my bookcase of anime....there are a lot that don't want to be categorized. Or seem to involve pretty much every genre :P
  
  My personal fav's are Trigun, FullMetal Alchemist, Blood + , Ouran High School Host Club and the Rurouni Kenshin OVA's. I only seem to really love anime when it has a solid plot, some humour, lovable characters, a powerful message throughout the series and then an absolutely devastating ending that makes me want to crawl into a hole and die :|

  Oooh, you started with the good stuff Ari! I love Studio Ghibli. If I were an anime studio, I'd marry Studio Ghibli, but alas, I am a mere human...
  
  I'm not as experienced with anime as most of the people here, but I'll blabber on with some petty advice anyway. Don't feel you have to pay any attention to me! :P
  
  My first anime experience was with Cowboy Bebop. It's great - sci-fi, space, bounty hunters - all put together with well-developed colouful characters.
  
  If you're looking for something girly and a little romantic, I recommend Fruits Basket. It's made me both laugh and cry. *imagines Bernard (Black Books) saying "You'll laugh, you'll cry, it'll change your life!"* It's set in the present, with some wonderful zodiac fantasy mixed in.
  
  Samurai Champloo is great for laughs and a mild amount of action. This is one of my favourites! It's set in medieval/feudal? Japan. I don't really know which word best describes the time period. Japan in old times!
  
  Like HotD, I recommend Ghost in the Shell, but this is definately one to watch when you're awake and paying attention.

  Regarding Hellsing, it didn't freak me out because of the violence, it freaked me out in other ways. But after reading about Blood+, I think I might give that one a go.

  Oh, yeah, this one is great :) - the sound track is really good, especialy during the fight scenes.

  Haha, loves me some Japan in old times :P I have Rurouni Kenshin and InuYasha to add to that category. They're light hearted, bit of samurai swordplay, and with plenty of warm fuzzy feelings :P
  Plus they won't leave you begging for more, because they pretty much go on forever, and ever, and ever...
  
  I'll agree with anything Cowboy Beebop, especially Knockin' On Heaven's Door. C.B really has it all.
  
  Another classic; Neon Genesis Evangelion. Think Transformers, just with more whiney young children :P I swear, it's watchable!
  
  I don't think I got around to any real recommending in my last post ( ~:|), so here's me plugging Trigun. It has everything you need in an anime, the lead character is so friggin awesome/adorable/hilarious you'll want to worship him as God, it has a great plot (an almost post-apocalyptic setting), it has times when you'll bawl your eyes out and others when you laugh your [censored] off, and the ending is even pretty fulfilling :P
  And what's more, the dub is fantastic! They got the perfect voice actor to cover the lead character :D

  Aaaaah! I just watched episode 32 of Blood+ (yes I've practically been watching it all day. Sad, isn't it? :P) and, just - waaaaaah!
  I can't believe Riko died like that! Just after he became Saya's chevalier, and it looked like everything was going to turn out ok, and he was being so sweet and nice all the time. Then Diva had to ruin it all by raping and murdering him! That's just - horrible. [act]sob[/act] And he was just a little boy! She is sick. And evil. :| Someone chop her head off already!
  It was really sweet how Solomon betrayed his brothers just to save Saya. I really like him now. I almost wish he and Saya could end up together, if it wasn't for Haji. Actually, it's a tough contest between Solomon and Haji for me, but Hali just wins out (if only because he's put up with Saya's crap over all the years and is still standing by her).
  Gah, this series is so addictive. I don't know what I'm going to do when it finishes. :P

  Aaah, I'm such a sucker for a guy with a string instrument ;P Listening to Haji play made me want to take cello up again...and then get a titanium case made so I can fight evil do-ers after gigs :P

  Saya needed a good kick for the way she treated Haji through most of the show ::) It was like he was a pet or something, "do this, do that!", "sit Haji!". Gah!
  I suppose she's improved on when she first met him though :P *thinks "cliff" and "flower"*

  Oh, I'll give her a kick as well. It was incredibly frustrating, though you're right, things did improve. :P Then again, there was that horrible scene with the shiv (sp?) in which Saya hid while Haji was essentially pulverised the impaled. I was wincing for aaaaages. That pic you linked too totally sums it up. Poor Haji just cops it all the time. Barely an episode went by without me sitting there rocking thinking 'Oh, his poor arm/leg/other body part! Why is Saya so useless/bitchy/oblivious?'
  
  I'll have to go back and assess the voice actor. :P I've actually only watched bits of it in Japanese, and that was from later episodes, so I should start from the beginning and watch it all subbed, as I generally do try to find it subbed first if I can.
  
  OMG, Ouran High School Host Club is awesome! XD I love it. I've only seen 6 episodes, but I love it. If I am ever feeling down, just the opening credits are enough to have me smiling. It's just so shiny.

  Oh god, I feel that. Damn those devastating endings. Mind you, I thought the Blood+ ending was quite good. It was sad, but it felt *right* somehow. What really killed me was Solomon's death. It was so horrible! He was all alone, and it was just tragic.
  
  Avi - I knoooooow! That was HORRIBLE! It also ruined my like of Diva. I'd thought she was a pretty cool villain up to that point, but after that I just hated her. That was just awful. I mean what she did to him...[act]*shudders*[/act] I also agree, Solomon is wicked, but Haji just has to win. Anyone who can tolerate her for as long as he has deserves a medal. And possibly some sort of voucher for counselling. :P Solomon is very pretty and sweet though...he can dance with me any time he wants. XD
  
  Also, you're not sad at all. Or if you are, I am as well. I've been reading Angel Sanctuary all day. It's great. XD
  
  As I'm still fairly new to the whole anime thing, I am so not brave enough to make recommendations. :P
