I really liked the Divergent movie... is that the unpopular opinion here? Sure some things were a little forced but for the most part I found it excellent.
I'm starting an Obernewtyn re-read.
I'm with Alysa and Sharni - I liked Divergent as well, the books and the movie.
I [strike]am[/strike] was reading a book called Split Second by Kasie West. I was enjoying it, althought it did seem to jump straight into the plot, and I was starting to get confused. By chapter eleven, I was starting to wonder if it was a sequel. I was right.
What really annoyed me is the only places you can find this out are in the acknowledgements and in the bottom corner of the cover it says in really small writing 'A Pivot Point Novel'. So I went to the library to get the first one. The funny thing is, if I picked the first one off the shelf, I probably wouldn't have read it, but becuase I picked up the second one instead and enjoyed it (well, the 11 chapters I read), I will.
I wish that books in general made it clearer when they were a sequel to something!
I liked it too, although the blurb of Pivot Point made it sound more romancey then I'd normally read. I f you think about it, it has some similar ideas to Obernewtyn - a group of people with mental powers cut off from the rest of society.
I've finally started to get on with The Cuckoo's Calling which I started when it came out last July, it's really good!

Almost finished Eighth Habitation, a collection of poems by Adam Aitken. I'm surprised by how much I like his fast, all-over-the-place style.
Next, I'm starting a three-book omnibus by the Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz. Normally, I strongly disapprove of omnibuses because they end up being bricks for no good reason, but this time it's three novellas, and hence the page count is around 450 and the book seems fairly light.
I recently finished Misery by Stephen King, which was amazing, expect I didn't much like the ending! I'm now onto Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King. I've never really gotten into his work, but after reading Misery (I read Pet Semetary when I was around 17) I'm on the hunt to read everything.
There's a new Garth Nix Old Kingdoms book? Not sure how I feel about that ...
Yeah it's a kind of prequel. Comes out on October. Called Clariel. :nods:

It's a prequel - set back in the Library (like in Lirael) and stuff?
I am planning to re-read the Old Kingdom books in preparation.
Speaking of re-reads, I decided to do a Harry Potter re-read, and right now I'm up to Order of the Phoenix.
Recently started Eyes Wide Open by Noreena Hertz. It's a self-help book (sort of) which teaches you how to filter all the information we're bombarded with these days, and provides strategies to help you make better decisions as a result. Normally I wouldn't be caught anywhere near a self-help book, but I trust Hertz enough to make an exception. It's been quite interesting so far.
Blackbird - Order Of The Phoenix is my favourite HP book. It's so hilarious!
I'm still reading 'Servant Of The Bones' by Anne Rice. It's...so...slow. I read Dolorous Claiborne by Stephen King beforehand! I'm also reading the first 'Prison Diaries' book by Jeffrey Archer. He's awesome!
Just finished 'Find Me' by Romily Bernard - about a teenage computer hacker with a horrible past that catches up with her. I've been waiting for it for ages :) [unfortunately it is only the first in a series - I prefer stand alones - hate waiting]
Also read 'A Bear Called Paddington' mostly because I hadn't already and it seemed like a weird gap to have in my reading history.

I'm reading the Divergent series. I was hooked on the first one, but the second is just a bit so so for some reason. And someone told me a major thing that happens in the last one. :l
I loved the movie as well, for once I didn't think they stuffed it or changed too much.
[act]sigh[/act] I have soooo many books to read since I started watching about fifteen extra TV shows last year when I finished school. Speaking of which, I really want to read Game of Thrones eventually, although I don't know if I'll be able to stand the heartache - the show is enough.
WHAT there's a new Old Kingdom book coming out?!?! I'm going to have to re-read this series as well...I'm actually so excited!! So glad I briefly visited here again after a year or so! :rolling:
I am still reading Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling. I know people who are obsessed with the series, but for some reason I am not quite getting that. The storyline perhaps isn't exciting enough or perhaps I feel a little lost in some parts - but part of this might be because I've been slowly reading this for quite some time. I am a little disappointed since I was captivated by Flewelling's Tamir trilogy.
Anyone else read this other series by Flewelling and have similar feelings? Should I push past the first book and it will get better in the later books??
I finished reading The Cuckoo's Calling, I thought it was quite good.
I'm now reading Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card, haven't read that much but I'm excited to see what happens. I also borrowed Ender's Game the movie, I might watch it tonight, see how badly they butchered the book.
Wow I have not been in this thread in a while... Attachments by Rainbow Rowell was really cute!
I'm up to [b]the Stone Key[/i] in my re-read and recently I read Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead which was absolutely excellent. Very different from Vampire Academy/Bloodlines but that was what I was expecting so I was pleased.
I jumped on the bandwagon and have started reading A Game of Thrones

I think I'm a bit obsessed with Richelle Mead's Age of X series. The Immortal Crown was amaaaaazing.
