I think steven is still around - he is mentioned somewhere in TKP, they just don't know what to do with him.
Rosamunde had undue attention placed on her in TKP - so what else has she to tell elspeth - she HAS to know more, something small, yet vital, that Jes told her (or something) else why bring her back in?
You've got a point - Rosamunde went pretty much unmentioned for two books, and then suddenly appeared again with a growing romance and a job among the Futuretellers. I figured this was probably because Elspeth was spending more time at Obernewtyn (and so was paying more attention to the people there than when she was off on expeditions), and perhaps to show us that Rosamunde had recovered from the Jes' death and was moving on...but what if she does know something, even without realising it?
Oh, pleasepleaseplease let this be an opening for Jes to return. *crosses fingers, in defiance of those who want him to stay dead* :P
Well, we only really have Rosamunde's word that he's dead. So if Jes were to return, she'd be the perfect one to reveal it.
Not that I think he will. Unless he's the Destroyer ... ;)
I think IC has confirmed that Jes is dead ... I must check the theories forum - but MAYBE he turns up on the dream trails - perhaps she goes back, like she did in TKP to see the old doors!
I thin IC said that she hadn't decided if Jes was dead or somethin' like that... if he is alive, he's probably held captive on Herder Isle... which Elf will be vistin in TSk so maybe there'll be a reunion! *dun! dun! dun!*
Wow - fantastic thread, and fantastic theories. LOL Firefall - if Malik chops off Elf's hand, we'll know where it's headed :P !!
Some theories/predictions are bursting to get out of me at the moment...driven entirely by the picture of the new map and TSK blurb that Isobelle showed us in Prague so I can't tell anyone outright...
Hopefully without giving too much away re the map, I'll say that we see more clearly what we already thought was there...and...roads. Of a sort.
Those wanting to find out more about Ariel...I think there's a pretty good chance we will...
The blurb of TSK...someone is talking to Elspeth in it; someone who doesn't like her very much. It's not a major character.
Gah...damnit! [act]closes that part of mind off[/act]
Deb, I love your idea that Domick is going to have been found by the West Coast Rebels or Misfits travelling to the Library - I hope it's so. I don't think I could stand him being dead either [act]sobs with Bec[/act].
The chapter on Penguin's site indicated that we find out a lot more about Cassy; I'm really looking forward to that. If we continue to delve into the Beforetime, I'm starting to think more and more that the signs can only truly be obtained on the Dreamtrails, in the Beforetime, or that Cassy's going to be involved in the final confrontation, somehow...hopefully Elf and Cassy will meet up at some point.
So, 4th is a Monday. How are we going to get the book when we're all at work/school??
I've ordered my copy - and I start work at 10am. I have it all worked out (unless the bookstore screws me - A&R apparently have 8th as the release date...)
Min - those hints about TSK are making me jump up and down in my seat! I'm dying to see this new map (I've been wanting an extended one for years...I'm desperately curious about Land and Sadorian geography, as well as What Lies Beyond). I've also been hoping for a while that Elf and Cassy would meet up on the dreamtrails...although maybe not in this book. I think if that does happen, it will be in either the search for the last sign, or the final battle (assuming there's a battle. There will surely be a confrontation of some sort, anyway).
I am going to take the day off work if I can. :P I work part-time with pretty flexible hours, so it should be possible...but the store I've pre-ordered it at better have it on the day or I'm going to have to go on a city-wide search for a copy, which would eat up valuable reading time. *sigh*
Does anyone believe we'll find out the identity of the Destroyer for sure this book? Or will that not be until The Sending, do you think?
I love being a uni student. Holidayz doesnt start til mid-Feb so I have plenty of time to devour TSK *swoons at thought*
I think the identity of the Destroyer will be revealed in the final book b/c IC is evil and wants us all to die of suspense-overdose ;P
and Min, I am so jealous!!!! you've seen the new map!!!! and who's that character ur referring to... someone who doesnt like Elf but isn't a major character (is it Brocade?)
I'll be at work and grabbing it teh moment the Penguin boxes arrive - or if it's arriving early and embargoed, the very moment I legally can. :D
This is the benefit of workign in a book store. :D
IC said Jes is definately dead.
I had planned on getting it at lunch on the 4th but I will now be on training in an industrial area and there is NO chance of getting to a bookstore on the 4th or the 5th, which basically sucks to say the least. Now I have no idea.
That's right, Jes was definitely dead at one point...then IC said about a year or two ago that she was rethinking this. There's no reason that he couldn't still be alive somewhere...
All that says to me is that Jes isn't a major contender for the Destroyer role...if his status is ambiguous. At least we can cross him off the list this way :D

I really do hope they go to the Land of the Red Queen in this book, but I can't really see it happening until the very end. It's a pity though, I miss Matthew.
There was something Ariel said to Elspeth on the Dreamtrails at the start of Ashling that grabbed my attention too, hold on, I'll go find the exact quote...
'You cannot hide from me. But my revenge will wait, because there is a thing you must do for me.'
'I won't do anything for you,' I hissed.
'Do as you wish and you shall still do my bidding,' he said with an angelic smile. 'And when you have served my purpose I will kill you...'
I thought that was very interesting.
I think that Malik will fade in importance as a character in b5. Or at least he won't be the sort of character whose actions affect the story that much. He might only appear at his trial. I think his relevance sort of depended on the rebellion and now that it has happened Elspeth's got bigger fish to fry.
Of course I could be completely wrong.
I really really hope we see more of Daffyd. I hope he pops up unexcpectedly as he has done before.
As to Domick being the instigator of the whole kidnap Rushton affair, wow! That's a really cool theory that I'd never thought of before. I always sort of assumed it was Ariel, who you can always count on for a bit of evil, but I suppose not everything is down to him. And if Domick did do it I agree that he probably thought it was for the greater good. He's an any-means-to-an-end kind of guy.
I would definitely like to see the misfits and rebels getting to the west coast in TSK - presumably they were waiting until they'd made enough diving suits to sneak across the river? Was that the plan? I'll be very annoyed if we don't find out what actually happened at the rebellion - who kidnapped Rushton, where Domick is, what happened on the West Coast. I'm hoping we can learn that in this next book and then the last book can be dedicated to the final quest.
Presumably Elf also collects all the signs except the last one (which she has to go to Sador to find) so that will last one will probably be in The Sending, not The Stone Key.
And I'm with Firefall - I'm dying to know what's so important about all these references to the moon, but I have a feeling we won't know that until right at the very end of the whole series!

Perhaps Matthew will appear again in true dreams even if not in person, i mean, at the end of TKP he was appearing frequently in the dreams of those at Ober. Perhaps Elspeth will find out more about him/ LOTRQ via the dreamscape or something?
I Miss Matty!! :P
I want more beforetime info - being an avid ancient historian, I want to know what else they can dig up! Why is the reichler clinic, which has long since vanished, still relevant? what does the old obernewtyn really have to do with the new one? and how did lukas seraphim find this out? WHAT DO THE GYPSIES KNOW? We know they are in it up to their ears, so are they the key to the mystery?
Argh, I know exactly what you mean, Nef! All the alluding hints and suggestions stick in my mind and I just want the answers! *screams in frustration* lol. I hate mysteries :P
I don't think Elf will get to TLOTRQ in TSK, I remember IC congratulating deb on guessing right that TSk will be all about the Land/West Coast and then in the Sneding, she'll get to the Red Queen and so forth... I think they'll be true dreams about Mattie... OMG, I can't wait till Matthew and Elf re-unite and the Daffdy/Gilaine reunion (*goes teary eyed*)
I don't think all the Beforetime mysteries will be solved in the OC b/c hey, we've got the Beforetime chronicles to go after all this...
I hope there's more Matthew as well - and that we find out what actually happened to Domick during TKP...
Hey - does anyone think we're going to have to deal with anyone dying this time..? :(
I've got a feeling we might lose Swallow...and it'll confuse Elf to no end because she thought he was Kasanda blood...and her quest's not over or he hasn't lead her to anything.
Gotta think about something else...okays, what about...yes, you guys are right IC said deb got it right in picking generally where Elf was going to head in TSK and Sending. So maybe the ending will be on a ship, travelling to LotRQ. Very similar to how Darksong ended, really - getting somewhere, but the hard work is about to begin sort of vibe.
Which brings us full circle...and we probably won't see Matty this book, unless he's in dreams or on dreamtrails.
[act]nods[/act] yes, there's your Iriny theory, my Dameon theory, and the basic fact that it hasn't been confirmed by anyone that Swallow is the Kasanda blood for sure - just Elspeth's speculation.
If Elspeth lost Swallow, she'd feel like she'd lost a part of the quest...then maybe, just maybe, take a step back, and discover the true identities of not just Kasanda-blood...but the Destroyer as well...
Not that I want anyone to die, of course! Just want Elspeth to think a little bit more...for our benefit :D :P
